I want to propose a different way of being a successful Commander, by bringing alive the program/ministry in the hearts of the boys as they work to reach-teach and keep themselves for Christ! Let's assume a few things we loosely hold to be true... Royal Rangers is *for the boys... Membership in a Royal Ranger Outpost will improve the quality of life of a boy. Royal Rangers is "Fun" Royal Rangers is a "lifetime adventure" Our CODE and Pledge and meanings of the Emblem, reflect the trail direction we will follow to build the total boy. Membership- When a boy "joins" he enters into a random arrangement of new friends that will be his continuing pals for the time he is a Royal Ranger. These boys have an interest in a well run and alive group that goes places and does things, through the agreement of Parents,Adult leaders and themselves as junior leaders. While the boys just want to "have fun" Adults will recognize the need for healthy social interaction and use the boys themselves to polish the life skills of "getting along" and dealing with others, of playing fair and displaying good sportsmanship. *Joining RRangers means pledging to do your best, with God's help! Developing Leadership- The best way to learn to be a leader is to *Become a leader! Boy Leadership! Boys have a natural desire to be respected, acknowledged and even rewarded for doing right. Leadership must become more that just following the rules or being a boss. Leadership must come to mean "improving the morale" of the larger group. In this way even the leader can enjoy the "game" that he supervises, and will find "prestige" comes upward from the boys and *guidence comes from the Adults! The REAL job of Commander- Commander has the key role! With skill and discernment he makes it look that he is available to council, politic with parents and guide the event from the background. He promotes Leadership by watchfully endorsing what works, encouraging new ideas and "reflecting with the boys" in a calm manner when things don't go so good. While willing to go back to start, he knows when improvements take place, says so..and *prefers the boys in all ways... and in his conduct. He does this in part by "Honoring people" He respects the family as the center of a boys life. He never stands between "family values" and "ministry". He lives with a 'balence" and the right priorities! *To make a friend- Become a friend! The Patrol is the key! All great games are played by TEAMS! It's the Team that chooses it's leader (*guide) by his willingness to help the patrol succeed at ever task. Success breeds success, and that build pride<G> We long-for something better! When we criticize, know that it is NOT the boys.. for boys will be who they are, as they are... It's not really the *Program, and that is just the desired game rules, we all can play together- The real deal comes down to Leadership! High Morale is the index of effective leadership! No success is possible without it- No failure complete unless Morale is destroyed, as it is the emotional force that gives drive to group action!
