Here is a list we use and some tips.
postage scale (don't let the boys just have free access to this as they
will tear a cheap one up quick)
Lead pot (get them by mail order from bass pro or most fishing shops)
Lead also or find a phone man and .....ask for some lead.
Desktop:
Drill Press 2
Bandsaws 3
shop lights for the drill presses
Forstener bits for boring lead holes 5\8 - 1/4 inch (drill main hole for
lead and then angle holes to keep
....lead from falling out of the main hole)
4" desktop sander
sandpaper
box of small pencils
erasers
tape to tape on the templates on the cars 3d cars you can tape the
cutouts back on after you sawed them to keep your angles right for
cutting out on the bandsaws.
Buffer wheel and wax
Also hit your sign shops around they have tons of colored adhesive decal
materials the boys can cut out ....with exato knives for decals.
They also have tape that allows layout of decals that make it easier to
put ....them on. the car.
blocks of wood for sanding blocks
dowels for sanding blocks
extra blades and paper for all tools
walmart spray paint. 99 cent per can
Large roll of paper to cover every table
Only boys that have had shop class can use tools
wood glue
lacquer thinner
paint thinner
brushes
towels
small screw drivers
fan for exhaust of paint room (put paper over everything.
Put Plastic down on the floors.
I have a lockin in the first Part of January as our pinewood derbies
start in February.
We also do cut and chop certification/re certification and bring in games
off all kinds to break up the crafting times. When your spraying paint
there is a lot of wait time.
I also put the kits in a 9.5 by 11 envelope with directions and race
rules. Included is a side and top view profile of the block of wood so
they can sketch out their car before they start drawing on the wood.
