Howdy-

I'm going horseback ride'n in the Oregon foothills of the Cascade Mt's
tomorrow all day and plan to try out my new Capote! The leaves is
change'n good and it's got a nip in the air...

This one is made from a brown Dutch army blanket with one
stripe of lighter materal at the bottom. *Cost $17 at the surplus store.

I cut it out on the front room floor and got out my Grannie's 1938
Singer sew'n machine with a handcrank<G>

This isn't the only Capote I got but.. it's one of the best I think.
I wanted a "shawl" collar like on 1910 era hunting coats and
covered the collar with sheep skin fleese re-cycled from an
old car seat cover<G> I attached a hood under that collar
and made a liner out of an old flannel shirt...

When it got too thick to run through the machine, I got on it
with a leatherwork needle and some artificial sinue, to stich
up the stress points.

I haven't finnished the button holes, but plan to make'em out
of deer leather with the hole wraped in sinue. The buttons
I sawed off a 2" thick deer antler in slices about 1/4" thick
and sanded 'em and drilled them for lace attachment.

On the back I got 'nuff spare material to build me an compartment
accross my small back for gear storage, wher on real hunt'n
coats they have a "game keeper".... In Oregon we allways pack
rain gear, even all summer!

I also sewed on two big cap'n Kangaroo pockets big enough to
hide a lunch<G> or stick my cold hands way down inside on these
crisp nights by the crackl'n campfire<G>

*It looks fair<G>

I allways admired those Filson packer coats...
