If you like the KJV, please do enjoy reading and heeding it, but please
forgive me if I fail to share your preference.
I still believe that the NIV or NKJV are much more appropriate for
children's ministry (including, of course, Royal Rangers) than the KJV.
My reasons for preferring several of the translations to a dialect of
English that I actually speak in my daily life stand. I'm aware of (and
have heard before) all kinds of reasons some people prefer the KJV, and
have read several books on the subject. I have also done some prayerful
research on the subject, and God has truly answered me. I am confident that
God really doesn't mind if we read the Bible in our own dialect. Indeed,
with my abundant collection of Bible translations, I'm wholly without
excuse if I fail to read & heed God's Word.
I do nit-pick when it comes to my work editing the World English Bible
(http://ebible.org/bible/web) and a couple of other translations
(http://ebible.org/bible/hnv, http://ebible.org/bible/glw), but I refuse to
nit-pick other translations. Please see
http://ebible.org/bible/biblefaq.htm for some general comments about Bible
translations.
There are many very good translations of the Holy Bible into English. None
of them do any good unless we read them, mix the Word of God with our
faith, and live like we believe in God.
May God bless you as you study and walk in love as Jesus demonstrated for us.
