Well, I'm not sure how much I agree with that. (i.e., the 'gospel' of
Thomas).

That book portrays Jesus as a spoiled brat who turned birds into stones and
then threw them when he was upset... quite far from the perfection of Jesus
as the Bible tells...

<< Actually, the Apocrypha is not the hotbed of heresy you think. Indeed, it
is helpful in understanding the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments. I
would rank the Apocrypha as recommended reading - along side contemporary
Christian books. I may not consider them as inspired in the same way as the
66 books of the Old and New Testaments, but they are worth reading and
preserving. I have even heard some rather respected Evangelical pastors
quote from a part of the Apocrypha on occasion in the process of explaining
some history that helped set the background for whatever they were teaching
on.

The apocrypha and the pseudopigrapha, all given insight into understanding
the
Bible.
It answers questions that can not be answered any other way. Like, where did
Jude get the idea about Michael contending over the body of Moses? Go read
the Testament of Moses and you will find it. These books are in not way
inspired, infallible, etc., but the shed light on many of the historical and
hard to understand passages. None of these books belong in the canon, but I
would not hesitate to read them. BTW there are many more books than what is
found in the Catholic canon.

Yours in Christ
