*Let me admit my IGNORANCE<g> to the maintence of the Perfect
Uniform... also let me say, my thoughts are valid from one ear to the
other and no further than the tip of my nose...
I spent 12 weeks of US Navy Bootcamp folding-packing-creaseing Uniforms
inside out with only my hand... Washing was done on the floor as I
showered, carried in a bucket outdoors.. scrubed out with a brisle
brush and hosed off then hung from a line.. with lanyards all tied to
stratigic puckered places and secured with squareknots all faceing north.
An excellent Uniform can be stored in a square 12" and 4-5 " thick..
and only improved by being crushed in a locker just bigger than a lunch
box.
*When the entire Training event was over... I was instructed to store
my uniforms in a canvas sea bag.. pile 'em at the hatch and prepare to hit
the beach!
The US Navy did not beleve in "irish pennents" or "protruding geedunk
medals" clustered upon the chest... *they might foul you on the ladder
below or encumber you from dogging the hatch in condition "X-ray"
Your entire wardrobe was ment to double as a life preserver more than a
showcase of achievement and the majority of time it's windproof quality
outshined it's beauty<G> ...tho in spartan dignity it shined!
13 buttons on the britches for the 13 colonies and a shoe string to snug
the aft<g> *pockets were sparce, and the only outward emblem was a ship
tag on the sholder... and a rank/rate identifyer on the sleeve... *all
creases soft and inside out... ribs and valleys on the socks<g>
*Square that whitehat LAD!
