Of course it's on a "back roads". There ain't no other way to get to Eagle
Rock, but by "back roads", as it is basically in the middle of nowhere in the
Ozarks. If'n you can find roads getting to Eagle Rock that allow you travel
at anything better than 45-55 you must share them with the rest of us.
Actually the highways to Monet & Cassville are pretty good and you can move
along pretty good, unless of course you're in a van, or bus, pulling a trailer
full of camping gear. It's the last part from Cassville on into Eagle Rock
that is narrow, winding, and lots of up & down stuff.
All this of course is not to take issue with your estimate of around 2 to 2.5
hours of travel time to get to Eagle Rock from Springfield as I would agree
with that estimate especially if one is traveling in the usual Royal Ranger
method as mentioned previously. Some of that last few miles can be a real
adventure in a bus full of boys pulling a gear laden trailer. Can't tell you
how many times I've had that pleasure already. Talk about your adventure
driving, especially for some of the native South Texas boys that think of the
area around Austin & Kerrville as "hill country". :-) Not that the area is
absolutely beautiful, and some of my favorite country. It's just that the
backroads of the Ozark make the backroads of Texas hill country seem flat &
straight by comparison.
