The Pacific Crest Trail passes next to Lake Tahoe. I believe that should tell you about where to find the trail. Most road maps will have the trail marked on them. It will be a very faint line starting east of San Diego and then heads up towards Palm Springs. >From Palm Springs it turns a bit west and passes between Palmdale and Los Angeles. Eventually it turns towards the east and passes Mojave, then almost follows 395 to Lake Tahoe. Then it tends to follow 89 till it reaches Interstate 5 where it then passes through Castle Crags State Park and heads on into Oregon.
