Hi everyone:
North Mesquite Tx RR OP # 201 will soon be running a Ham/Radio
Operator licensing program. It will be open to the boys and their parents as
well. We are hoping to begin in May. We are being given (praise God) a base
unit by the loacl operators society. They are donating their time to teach
us (praise God again). Guest speakers include Fire Marshalls, Police Chiefs,
and local News Weathermen/women.
We are also planning on opening this up to any outposts in the North
Texas Area or anyone who wants to make the drive. Anyone out there who is
interested in having their OP participate please let me know. We are very
excited about this; as not only will the boys earn a merit, but it is
something they can put to use. The local operators volunteer for parade
coordination, search and rescue, and believe it or not they are having "field
days" with the local police and fire dept for Y2K to ride along in Police
cars and on firetrucks. Only those with a license may broadcast by law so
the locals are considered a last line of defense.
Now I have faith that Y2K will blow over, but is good to think that
the boys and their parents know that they can say "I can Help if Needed."
A very excited,
Kelly Gist
