*Review!
1. Use "workbook" instead of the "after meeting shuffle."
2. Have parent affirm the Rangers achievement.
3. Review by Commander one on one.
4. Ranger stands before "Dad Patrol" as a "Board of Review"
and double check on progress-attitude and achievement.
============
Duane,
I've started using one of the workbooks found on the
net. It has spaces to fill for "Name and describe..." or "list..."
This way I can see that the boy has it done and can just sign off. It
also has places for "Parent's Signature" for things that need to be
done at home (cooking, making beds, etc.).
I've also started having a regular "Patrol Corners".
I'm encouraging the boys to test each other on advancements
so they're ready when they get to me, and I also use that time to sign
off those boys who are ready. I've been getting to an average 2
boys/night this way.
Lastly, I don't have a Board of Review, but I went
through a couple as a Trail Ranger and strongly encourage
it. I talked to a Boy Scout Councilman once who said it was the
safeguard for the system. Boys were rearly denied an advancement, but
if they were unprepared to do what the advancement required, they were
told to go back and review.
