D3*....
*I'm attempting to experiment in my outpost from now to summer with
the boys selecting a "Advancement Councilor" in a Mom/Dad.. any "adult"
and haveing them decide when and how an achievement is reached by the
boy.. So *I've handed "sign-off over to them" with the addition of
a check and balence system, involveing a "Dad Patrol" to review each
Ranger along the Gold-track.
In my Outpost, the young Pioneers must confront a lot of changes in
joining a older group of bigger, taller.. *Noisey Boys.. and it has not
brought Commander closer to them for the quality time needed in
advancement. *Keeping order as well as faciltateing the weekly meeting
program is a tall job.... and for me I find it difficult to dicipline a
boy, and the judge him fairly on a effort in achievement.
*So that's me...
But your question is *can a Lt. Cdr. sign-off advancements?
-----------------------------------------------------------
*I'd say yes of course...
Adult Leaders of Rangers should *set the mark...*My mark in achievement
is: "No More- No Less"
...and I desire to call the ranger code to the mind of every
boy as he self-examines his effort to achive any requirement..
"Have I done my best?"
*No more-No less means in nameing 5 birds.. we don't need to name
6 or 8 or bring in a feather from each... *AND nameing the parkeet,
a chicken, a parot in the mall *does not cut it!
The requirement states "name 5 birds"...... so do it! and make the answer
meet the majority of what reasonable people would accept as the answer.
*I recieved a wonderfull letter from a brother in Alaska.. on this
subject. *Advancement...I've been given permission to share it.
But last night... I started to see what frustrates me as a Commander of
Pioneers... *They use me as their conscience... like little balls on
a elastic band they fly out... *Trusting and expecting tension to return
them back to grace!<g>
Maturity comes *sometimes from experiances where the elastic breaks, and
you find yourself hurrling thru space and into a wall! *Splat!
*It seems to me Others besides Commander are subject to the Ranger code
and can hold the "meaning of the FCF Campfire" in their hearts and share
that knoledge with boys... *Wisdon isn't required... advancement is a
*Program!<G>
*I'm hopeing matruity kicks in shortly and teachible moments result from
standing out of the way of advancement in my outpost...
