For .15 cents I bought a 1954 copy of "Council Fires" by
Ellsworth Jaeger Macmillan Press-New York
Within these 250 pages are the skills-History and culture of the
Council Fire... *thruout my Royal Ranger life I've stood at many
fires and after looking at this "Ideal" *I'm hungry for drama..
and pagentry!
We ask at NTC for Patrol standards/flags and spend spare time at crafting
bolo's and trinkets for the staff... In FCF we used to require a
"stalking stick" be earned from a game played by members..
In the Pioneers we have achievement's that ask for the patrol yell-
song or bolo as well as display of a flag...
*All these things are linked to the traditions of the Council Fire!
Look at a old "Ben Hunt" Indian craft book...or old BSA Scout manuals
and you see a call to the fire... of fellowship and secret
understandings.. of special meanings...and sworn oaths that *you..
...on your Honor will NEVER FORGET CAMP ...er ..ah..<G> anyway!
I refering to classic summer camps in the woods by a lake where after
a day of summer adventure... you march silent into the "Great
Ampthi-theater" of Log benches in a circle around a built-up
councilfire...
Your new friends are there... Your hero's are on stage...
Council's- Hogan's- Chiefs seat- Good Medicine- Raven- Cyote-
The Drum Beat... the torch bearer...the herald/crier.. and
souds you never heard! Yo-o-O-EE-yo-Ho-o-H-o-o-o...
...Sandpaintings! ..Awards! ...Presentations! ...Honor!
*Where did all this go?
