I have decided that in order to help our Rangers in our Area, that I can
also join another program called the Civil Air Patrol. What my intention here
is, that I will learn about flying and Search and Rescue maneuvers as the
Royal Rangers Challengers Book talks about, except with professional training
in the field, I will then be able to elaborate on the subject/topic.
Opportunities exist for the Royal Rangers to participate on interagency
activities such as Search and Rescue field operations and the likes with
Police/Fire Depts. CAP/ANG /National Guard units etc., through out the middle
Atlantic states.
Wouldn't it be wonderful to learn about survival from those who must endure
it regularly?
Winter Mountaineering, Rock Climbing and Repelling, Cold weather preparation,
I have committed myself to learning these things so that I can bring them back
to the outposts and share them in an effort to contribute to the ministry and
overall effort of the Royal Rangers. My first love is of Course the Lord, but
I also keep the Rangers right up there also.
I will be able to teach about FAA rules and regulations regarding
Commercial airports, flight patterns, topographical maps, The Grid system that
is used by emergency personnel in search patterns, the effects of weather on
flight, and I will have the chance to participate on actual sorties of when
planes go down and we get to go find them.
Boys would find this interesting and perhaps be interested in pursuing a
related career.
The CAP got started in WW2 when the German U boats started to encroach
upon US waters. One U boat Cmdr, surrendered because of all the red and
yellow little planes were always calling out their positions. The little red
and Yellow planes were the Civil Air Patrol, the Auxiliary to the United
States Air Force.
My hope is to benefit Rangers from these experiences, the CAP, and my family
by my involvement.
Blessings abound!
Cmdr. Mike Burke
