Jesus taught us a valuable lesson in the parable of the sower. We cannot
expect all the seed we cast to fall upon fertile soil. Some will fall upon
the rocks, the thornes and along the pathway. We are called to cast the
seed, nevertheless. Our responsibility is to obey the orders of our
commanding officer. The results rest with the Lord. It's so easy to be
deceived into believing that our labors are not bearing fruit. The fact of
the matter is that we may never see the fruition of our labors, but that does
not necessarily mean that the seed did not take root. Then there are times
when the Lord grants us an extra measure of His grace and allows us to see
the seed take root, sprout into life, and blossom into something rare and
beautiful.
Remember that we teach most effectively by the example we set before others.
It is not uncommon for a commander to have a young man come up to him years
later and say something along these lines: "Commander, you probably don't
remember me, but I was one of your Pioneers years ago. At the time, I wasn't
interested in Royal Rangers and I caused you a lot of trouble. You may not
believe this, but you really had a positive influence on my life. Thank
you."
