Last Saturday we held our Straight Arrow Potlatch for all of the Straight
Arrows in the Section. Some of you in the past have asked for ideas for a
Straight Arrow event, so this is what our Section does:

Reserve and an area with picnic tables and a covered area.(especially if
your in the Pacific NW)
Duane and I bring our Tee-Pee and set it up. Cmdrs wear Indian attire if at
all possible.

Agenda:

Recite the pledges to the American Flag, Christian Flag, Bible and say the
Straight Arrow pledge
Sing some songs - (we sang the NO-RAIN dance song, and an apache song Duane
learned on the Indian reservation he grew up on called "Jesus in the
family")
Open in prayer
EVENTS:
(ribbons are given out 1st - 5th place - that way by the end of the day
everyone has gotten some sort of ribbon)
Sack Race (we give out ribbons 1st - 5th places)
Ring Toss (rubber rings tossed over wooden stakes in the ground)
Frisbee Toss (each Straight Arrow stands on the spot wear their Frisbee
lands to determine winners)
break for a meeting in the Tee Pee. Rangers sit on blankets and a Cmdr tells
an Indian story.
Softball Toss
Baton Relay Race
Wheelbarrow Race
break #2 for a meeting in the Tee Pee. Cmdr tells another Indian tale.
Potluck Lunch and fellowship (we roasted marshmallows as an added bonus)
Closing Devotion and alter call.
Penny Toss (rope out a large circle with a rope on the ground. While the
Straight Arrows are listening to a devotion in another area, toss pennies
inside the roped area. This works well in a grassy area).
The Rangers then line up and stand on the rope and are given a paper cup.
Then when Cmdr says GO! They hunt for all of the pennies in the grass. They
are allowed to keep all the pennies they find.
