Today, May 24th, marks the one year anneversary since a bomb tore a hole in
our sanctuary wall. Yesterday's service paid tribute to all of the emergency
personnel who responded to this event. There were tears as we watched a
video recounting the events of that day and the days and weeks of recovery
that followed. If that makes it sound like we are living in the past, we are
not. It was merely a time to remember what God has brought us through.
Though there are a few people who have not returned to this church since
that day, many families have joined our congregation since then. The
sanctuary has been restored and God continues to do wonderful things
through us to strengthen His kingdom.
For those of you who may not know, a bomb that killed a man in his garage on
the Thursday following the church bombing has been shown to be made of the
same materials as the bomb at the church.
Police were on their way to question this man in connection to the bombing
when that bomb exploded in his garage. He was killed instantly. Our church
body reached out to his family, our pastor even spoke at his funeral, and we
have tried to help them through this time of their loss. It is easy to think
that some type of closure would come form this man's death, but even he had
a soul. And the same evil that drove him to commit these terrible acts is
still very active in our world today.
We must be even more active to bring the message of God's grace to a lost
world. Live your life as an example every day and never pass up a chance to
tell someone about the love of God and the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
