In America we celebrate the 3rd Sunday of June to honor and recognize our
Fathers as being special.

William Smart had raised his six young children alone. His daughter, Sonora
Louise, never forgot her Father's devotion and love for his children and his
unselfishness in raising them alone. When she grew up and married, she
suggested to her Pastor that the congregation honor All fathers. She
selected the third Sunday in June because her Father's birthday was in June.
The first Father's Day was observed in Spokane Washington on June 19th 1910.

Mrs. Sonora Louise Smart Dodd suggested that people wear a white rose to
honor a father who was deceased and a red rose for a father who was living.
In 1916, US President Woodrow Wilson approved the idea to officially observe
Father's Day. He marked the event by pressing a special button on his desk
in the White House that unfurled a flag at a Father's Day celebration in
Spokane Washington. Later Father's Day became a national holiday in 1972
when US President Richard Nixon signed the congressional resolution
permanently establishing the 3rd Sunday in June as Father's Day.

It is a special day for me too for I was born on Father's Day and my Mom
said I was a gift to my Father from our Heavenly Father.
