Congratulation Mark!!!

IMHO You need to stay involved with the boys. You might go out to your area
churches once a month instead. We already have too many Staff members (one
is too many) who are no longer involved with boys and are only working from
past experience and theory. Rangers IS boys, and if you are too busy for
them, them your staff assignmnet is to heavy. Even on exec committee, I tell
them once in awhile that MY boy's needs come first. And even more frequently
I take my boys along to help me make a presentation or training at a church.
It is a minstry opportunity for them. Lastly, they asked you to be on Area
Staff because of the good work your are doing with the boys: Congratulations
and keep up the good work (if not as Senior Commander, at least as some
active local position.)

I understand your wanting to do a good job at the new position and we really
do need area commanders that do their job properly, but I've seen it
repeatedly in the past 16 years. Take a good commander, put him on staff, he
quits working with the boys, he gets burnt out with the Area Commander
thing, he quits to go back to the local outpost, and somehow working with
the boys just isn't (or is) how he remembers it. And he's dead. Don't want
that to happen to any of my friends!

Just my humble opinion of course.

Your friend
