** CHILDREN'S MINISTRIES AGENCY FORMED
During its June 8,9 session, the Executive Presbytery of the
Assemblies of God voted unanimously to create a Children's
Ministries Agency. The agency is a new initiative within the
Assemblies of God and will provide a networking relationship
among all the ministries in the Fellowship that provide ministry
to children.
Features of Children's Ministries Agency will include the
creation of a national committee made up of children's ministers
from across the country as well as personnel at the Assemblies of
God Headquarters in Springfield, Mo. The committee will address
children's ministry strategy, programs and resources in the
Assemblies of God and make recommendations. The agency will
provide for representation and promotion of all children's
ministries initiatives among the Fellowship's churches. It will
also provide a formal avenue for planning and coordinating large
children's ministries conferences on a regular basis.
The Rev. David and Mary Boyd have been appointed to serve in the
new agency. The Rev. Boyd will coordinate the Children's
Ministries Agency and BGMC (Boys and Girls Missionary Crusade)
which has been brought under the agency's administration. As BGMC
coordinator, Boyd will replace Sandy Askew who will retire
after 25 years of service. Mary Boyd will serve as
BGMC Assistant Coordinator.
Most recently the Boyds have served as children's pastors at
First Assembly of God in Fort Myers, Fla. (the Rev. Dan Betzer,
pastor). They are graduates of North Central University in
Minneapolis, Minn. The Boyds have written for Assemblies of God
publications and ministered at national conventions.
David Boyd will begin his responsibilities at Headquarters on
July 13 and Mary Boyd will assume her position on August 2.
