Johnny had a dog named "Uncle Joe".  When asked why he had given his pet such an odd name, he replied, "Because he's just like that uncle of mine - he growls at everything he eats and wants to fight with everyone he sees."

The Bible makes it clear that grumbling is out of character for a child of God.  It's actually a grievous sin, for it reflects a heart of regellion against God.  In Numbers 11 we read about the ugly mood of the Israelites, who had become fatigued by their difficult wanderings in the wilderness and had grown tired of the manna day after day.  Although they had been marvelously delivered from the slavery of Egypt and experienced God's continual care for them, the ungrateful multitude murmured.  The result was severe chastening, for suddenly "the fire of the Lord burned among them, and consumed some in the outskirts of the camp." (See Numbers 11:1-10)

The Lord is grieved when we grumble or become discontent.  We need to recognize the goodness of God in daily providing for our needs.  As believers, we should be content with the basics of food, clothing and shelter.
