Recently, I got some time to talk with FCF National President
Fred Deaver... about *Mitch Silvers

I'm not sure what can be done..
I am SURE what should be done.

I had the chance to shine like gold as a Ranger and *Mitch stood
on the back row.. We never know the future, but should never forget
those who have passed our way, and made a sacrifice.

Time goes forward, and I have the honor to bring this fine young man
before you. Those that have served in combat know the story...

*Mitch Silvers was READY FOR ANYTHING!

(Mitch was a Trailranger at Op22 Norwalk,Calif SoCal Dist.
with Commander Hank "Lone Eagle" Cole FCF '68)

PFC Mitchel Frank Silvers #2350036 USMC was attached to
Co. K "Kilo" 3rd Battalion 1st Marines Jan 5 1968 and reported to duty
aborad the USS Valley Forge a helocopter assult ship, located
on station Quang Tri porvence, Republic of Viet-Nam.

On January 23 3rd Batt. 1st Marines (3/1) went ashore to commence
operational action against a hostile force, later found to be elements of
the 803rd, 812th,324th NVA regulars supported by "popular forces" (VC)
in and around the mouth of the Chu Viet river
*This operation carried the code name "Badger Catch/
Saline" and followed a previous operation known as "Badger Tooth"...

Total compliment of 3/1 was 1,583 enlisted and 62 Officers within 4
companies of Battalion Landing teams "I" "K" "L" and "M" and 9
"H&S" companies of tanks and engineers, medics ect.

*Mitch Silvers was in Co."K" assigned a job of MOS2531 fwd observer or
radio operator (still to be discovered) Capt. J.E. Regal in command.

Enemy control of the Chu Viet river had them establish fortified defensive
lines on the edge of hamlets, with defensive positions running back into
the centers of the hamlets them selves. The enemy defended his position
with tenacity and skill and did not break contact untill well after
darkness had fallen....

Exstensive paddy areas and dikes prevenved wheeled vehicles and proved
difficult for tracked vehicles as well... *what was known was the enemy
had occupied the north bank of the Chu Viet river so as to interdict river
traffic.

*Mission: 3/1 was assigned the mission to clear the north bank of the Chu
Viet river and adjacent areas of enemy forces.

*To come: Co."K" 3/1 attacks the village of My Loc (yd305680) 25 Jan 1968
