Greetings all,
I wanted to post a response to the question regarding Straight Arrow leaders
uniform. The SA lodge meeting and the Buckaroo Roundup meeting are
structured differently than the older age groups. The "outfit" for leaders
in the weekly meetings should reflect the theme of their respective groups;
i.e. - an Indian chief outfit for SA leaders and a Cowboy/girl Ranch Boss
outfit for Buckaroo leaders. The Ranger uniform for SA and Buckaroo leaders
is worn to "official events, meetings and or ceremonies".

It concerns me when I hear that leaders for these age groups wear their RR
uniform instead of their Outfit to denote a figure of authority. (I have
heard this many times btw). The mere fact that you are an adult speaks
loudly of your authority to children ages 5 - 8. When you wear an "outfit"
to your weekly meetings you will find that the children will immediate
respond to you in a different way than if you were wearing a Khaki uniform.
When Duane led the Straight Arrows dressed in an quasi Mt Man/Indian Chief
uniform, the boys literally climbed up into his lap at devotion time. To
this day he is called affectionately by those boys he taught in that SA
group as Chief Ta-Tonka. I wear a cowboy outfit to my weekly meetings and my
boys not only know that I am their Ranch Boss, but that we are unique as
Buckaroos because of my outfit. In fact when I do wear a khaki uniform to
ceremonies and Sectional events, I am often mistaken as a Pioneer leader.

Remember that you are in your meetings to nurture, teach and lead boys to
Christ. Younger children especially, are shy of adults and are well aware of
your authority -- they are looking to you as a surrogate parent even. You do
well in wearing an outfit that will both be fun for you and them.
