Josh and I made a surf trip east for an hour through the Cascade Mt's along the highway through the "Gorge" to a beautiful little city called Hood River.. Americans have come to know Hood River for it's fields of cherries and apples and other produce. It lays just east of Oregon's highest peak.. Mt. Hood and yes there is a real river<G> The heat of the east side of the Cascades raises the air..(Hot air rises) and to replace it cool air (heavy air) rushes up a narrow slot called the Columbia "gorge" as it is the river channel for the mighty Columbia River. For years... the wind blew! Summer brought steady 20 mph gusts enough to shape the trees in ways so that all the branches point east... The Columbia Rivers falls or flows through the gorge in a westward direction to the Pacific ocean... and standing in the river you have a strange sensation.. the "current" drags you west aND THE WIND BLOWS YOU EAST! No-where else on earth does this happen with repeated regularity like this stretch of the river through Hood River.. Some wacky inventor put a sail on his surfboard, and found the situation in this part of the "Beaver State" to his liking.. The wind sets up a "chop" and if you rig your sailboard for a "broad reach" going crossways to the wind you easily "bust some waves" Have you ever wanted to fly? Have you ever wanted to harness the power of the wind? How do you know "the wind"... How do you capture the "powerful force an un-seen energy source?" Wind surfers lift themselves onto a "board" that glides on the water, and hang onto a sail that captures the force of the wind.. It's not easy at first to learn to ride with the power of a *un-seen force.. Royal Rangers believe in a more powerful "un-seen force"... The "force" we believe in can rid a boy of an impure heart and mind! It can make a bad situation disappear! It can HEAL a deceased body, or a broken heart! The "Power" of the Lord Jesus can save a soul from eternal doom! When we ask Jesus into our heart.. He "Lifts us" from our sin! He holds us and comforts our spirit... and sends a "comforter" to empower us to do his work... all we have to do is ask!
