The answer that was given to me some time back was a WHALE.  Note the part
about giving men light.  Whale oil was a souece of light for a time, and
the whale had to die in order for this to come to pass.  Also, Jonah was a
living soul placed inside a whale.

  From first glance I would say that it is probably Mr. Snake.  Snake is

letters long, and can travel from pole to pole, once had arms and legs, but
God took them away so the snake could travel on it's belly.  The soul it
