Hi All,
I just read this post. I have to say that I agree with Victor on this. I'm
on everyone's hit list right now because I agree with what is said here. I
often find the self glorification thing a big hindrance. I'm not casting
stones. I'm not slinging mud or dropping lit matches. Sometimes the way
things go, I wonder about people's motives, is it the self glorification
thing? If we look for that here why are we not giving it where it belongs?
The situation of which Victor is speaking here, isn't just localized to his
neck of the woods. I know people who by their very actions act as if they
are ashamed to be Rangers, don't want to talk about Rangers and share what
Rangers is about out in public. They are quick to take their uniforms off
even before they leave the Ranger Functions. Actions speak louder than
words. Talk is cheap, and it is even cheaper if what you say isn't backed up
by actions. Lip service doesn't count for much, because children won't
remember that as easily.(but they do remember some of it) They will remember
doing something special and what you do in that teachable moment is what is
going to last. Sometimes I just get so upset with the way things go, I just
want to get right up and quit Rangers all together. Rangers isn't the only
tool that God has provided for us to use to reach kids. It's just for me
that is the one I was called to. Around here, I am the one who wears the
uniform because I believe in it and what it stands for. It is a testimony
about the wearer and to the King of whom it stands for. I am not afraid to
wear it in public, because people come and ask about it, they see it and want
to know about it and I take the time to explain what the uniform is and what
it's about; Christ. I'm not out for self glorification because If I was, I
got the whole thing wrong. My perceptions would not be according to what is
all about. I know people of whom seem to have a morbid perception of the
whole thing by the way they conduct themselves. When you wear the uniform,
the eyes of the world are upon you, you are representing the Lord.
I don't like doing things 1/2 way and neither does God, It's either all
the way or nothing, no middle ground. We have to stop sitting on our laurels
and smell the flowers. We don't see progress because we aren't out there
actually doing it. We have to ask ourselves, Do we give up just because the
boy gave up? Or do we continue on in the faith and knowledge of what the
Lord has told us? The only things I believe are really accomplished by the
advancements are this, setting goals and reaching those goals, learning the
lessons in between and the sense of achievement when those goals get met.
The difference between a square knot and a granny knot, I seriously doubt
that the Lord is going to ask us to tie one before He lets us take up
residence in Heaven. We are there to teach these children, we teach them
some things they don't get in school. School is really too caught up in this
"politically correct" nonsense that it hinders their mission. Are we too
caught up in the "oh. It's just a church thing," idea or are we really trying
to make a difference, trying to actually get something done instead of being
a hindrance. Sitting back and complaining never got me anywhere. God is
Goodness! We are the ARMY of the Lord, are we going to plunder Hell and
populate Heaven or are we going to go waving our white hankies when things
get rough? Communicate. Communicate with God, Communicate with the other
Commanders, the Pastor, the parents and the kids.
An Army couldn't fight it's way out of a paper bag if it doesn't Communicate.
If WE don't stand up and take the lead, whose going to follow? I would like
to encourage you to be the DIFFERENCE!
Iron Mike
