I have noticed a disturbing trend among the kids at our church and am not
quite sure exactly how to deal with it... how about some advice?
I work with Kid's Chapel on Sunday morning(ages 5-9) as well as my Royal
Rangers on Wednesday night. I have noticed an increasing number of kids
from kids' chapel and rangers that do not participate in the Sunday night
service. Many of them are out in the hallway or the gym(unless it is
locked). The ones that are in service are coloring, talking, and passing
notes. I can understand some of this happening during the sermon, but it
happens from the time the first song is sung and continues through the
invitation.
These are the same kids that are active and participate in kid's chapel and
rangers.
I realize that it is primarily the parent's responsibility to control how
their children act in church when they are with them. But, I spend a lot of
time with these kids and feel that I should be helping them with "big
service behaviour" as well.
When I announced last Wednesday that we were not having Rangers on the 24th
(we have a Tuesday night Thanksgiving sharing service that week), most of
the boys made comments about not coming to that service. I encouraged them
to come and share what they were thankful for.
Admittedly, Sunday night service is not as exciting as Wednesday night
Rangers or Sunday morning kids' chapel(don't tell the pastor I said that!),
but the kids won't be in those services forever.
Does this make sense?
Awaiting your wisdom....
