The patrol method
------------------
Boy Leadership

"a Commanders job is to train and equip boys to run *their* Outpost"

**********************************************************************
*COMMANDERS ARE EXPENDIBLE Boys are not...If *You* Commander are doing
it all.... That's not Royal Rangers,...consider getting out of the way.

 Why the Patrol Method?
-----------------------

Pastors stand at the pulpet and preach! ...Glory!
Teachers stand at the chalkboard and teach!
Coaches stand at the head of a formation and yell!
Drill sargents, tear you down to build you back up!

What do boys do?

"they form gangs..it's a boys natural way of order..

Take a large group of boys..let them mingle, and smaller groups begin
to form. These groups form friendships, and honor,loyality...they stick
to each other in work and play.

Now, take that *Gang and call it a Patrol!

(Tip!) It's 1997 and more and more our Rangers are solo adventurers...
The TV and Computer/Nintendo steals old fashioned stick-ball and hoop
from the lives of our boys.

Commander! get them to make friendships...an outing devoted to knowing
each other..what each does for fun and intrest will ease the formation of
the partol "Gang" Commander needs desernment in makeing sure that
"clickks"sp?
do not form, and Commander may bust up a "gang" to serve the Outpost goal..

That's adult leadership!

Nut's and Bolts.."How too!"
_________________________

Boys learn by doing...so get them doing something!
Your aim is to teach leadership thru experiance..so here goes!

"Trust 'em to do right...Hand over "Adventures in Camping"
to Sr.Guide in a Gold Bar Staff meeting and say..

"Sr.Guide You may appoint a patrol,or teach yourself to the outpost...
(Example..) *what to take on an over-night camp out*
I do not care what you say (Follow Ranger Code!) or how you say it...but get
the knoledge accross to 'em..
We have an Outdoor Camp-out planed for 2 weeks.. Thanks, Sr.Guide!"

Then step back...(It is HARD the first time!...DO IT!)

(Tip!)
If Sr.Guide wants the job....he'll handle it, or it's time to put in a
new man! Boy leadership...means Leadership!

(aside)
Letting the BOYS run the outpost is a freeing experiance...
You do not have to tell each ranger what to do and when to do it..
You don't have to worry about next weeks meeting feature, Sr.Guide has
planned it, along with the patrol guides...

You Commander, can have time to think of new ideas, to keep the outpost
on track for powwow or nat'l camporama! and..above all, you have time
to do your Spirtual Job...to council, mentor, guide a ranger to a deeper
walk with the Lord...

*Re-View!
*********

For the Perfect outpost...the patrol method is an absolute necessety!
*think about NTC...*

Form patrols of 5 to 8 max.

Train them under the guidence of their own responsible leader
as separate units/patrols....

Remember...Go for Broke! do not give up on this concept, convince yourself,
pastor and whoever else..that this way will work! IT WILL!

haveing established the Patrol Method..uyse it for everything!

Thanks....May God bless each Outpost!

More to come...
