Michael's Psalm 28
23 September 1999

Let Your word go forth, Father!
May Your people hear Your voice!
Offer Your salvation plainly.
        Everlasting life is Your gift.
Victory over sin and its curse is free.
Redemption is paid for with Jesus' blood.
Eternal life is our inheritance because we believe You.
Crucifying our old ways, we follow Jesus.
        Yahweh be praised forever!

Michael's Psalm 29
25 October 1999

Glory to God!
        Hallelujah!
Our Father provides all our needs.
Abundance allows us to share and bless others.
Do what the Holy Spirit prompts.
Reach out to others with the Gospel.
Salvation is free, but people need to hear about it.
Visit your neighbors, near and far.
Unleash God's power with love.
        Everyone needs God's love.
Peace and love flow from us.
        Show people we really care.
People are welcome in our Father's Kingdom.
        Tell them the Good News!
Life forever with Jesus is our inheritance.
In our Father's house is great joy.
I praise you, Father God, for you are very good.
Many thanks go to you for your grace.
Every good and perfect gift comes from you, Lord.
Eternal life is a wonderful gift from you!
Shout hallelujah!

Last night on PBS I watched a program about the secret code breakers of
WW2 in Britain..

With only the scrambled transmissions of Nazi communications they were
able to "de-duce" not only
the message but the machine that scrambled the text! They built one
based on sheer brain power of
asking what would it take to secure text and portray it in this manor..
They "saw" the un-seen.. by looking
not at the confusion.. but at the surrounding structure that did not
change...

Germans were sure that their messages could not be broken... they
trusted the equipment they developed,
and in fact it was good! But the code was broken because of predictable
human traits and errors being
sent over the radio... To anncounce a message three (3) letters would
start.. the code sender was told to
choose random letters..

Humans are not random.. the letters H-I-T then the code *-*-*
(L-E-R?) How about: L-O-N followed by
*-*-*(D-O-N?) or try: B-E-R * * * (L-I-N?)

The Nazi's started messages with a repeated cheer of Hail Hitler... *so
what ever the code machine scrambled..
the British reasoned that message might be at the start<G>

Each day a clue was sent that predicted the change the enemy made to
confuse transmitted text<G> and soon
they came to expect the changes each day and guess them before the
Germans sent them<G> *What fun<G>

The machine had three wheels to scramble text.. Allied forces had found
that out.. then it all went black!

Germany added a forth wheel to their machine! By wars end they had a
machine with 12 wheels of random letters and
code so tuff... the Leader of the codebrakers found one message required
30 days to de-code!

"I think I'll invent a machine that uses vacuum tubes to sort out random
phrases using a binary code of on-off"

Tah-da! the worlds first programmable Computer! THANK-YOU BRITISH
INTELLIGENCE <g>

Royal Rangers understand that the game is easy when you know what the
enemy is about to do..
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------

It's easy to be ready when you have a warning before the fight...and
READY is our motto!

But could you sort out the intentions of the enemy by "reading" the
random codes he allows you to see?

*THINK ABOUT WHAT THE ENEMY SENDS YOU OVER THE TV! ...the movies and
the Internet!
..what about music you hear? Pictures you "see"....

Can you use "RANGER INTELLIGENCE" to see he would kill you, addict you,
bring you harm and pollute the temple of the Holy Spirit? He's the
enemy! He's come to steal your joy and rob you of eternal life thought
Jesus! when he gets close..
you won't know it.. you'll rebel, get angry and quit Rangers-church and
become a "problem" to your god fearing parents!

*READ THE INTELLIGENCE REPORT! BREAK THE CODE!

The bible has this all laid out, and provides you with the power to
resist and triumph in the LORD!

*HOW CAN THE Enemy... steal your mind?

The facts are that "Outside" forces steal your CONCENTRATION and you
become tired of the challenge of learning new things and achieving
goals... BREAK THE CODE! *you need to do your homework! Good Grades
honor you and honor the Lord Jesus! Don't fall into the trap of the
enemy and dodge responsibility... the enemy loves that!

Use you BRAIN POWER!

Break the task into segments... do what you know and think about the
rest... remember the lecture at class?
What did the teacher desire to get across while you were staring out the
window? <G>

*Be a Intelligence operative!

Dear Rangers.
I just got this from another list and thought I would share it with you.

If 99.9% were good enough.....

* 12 newborns would be given to the wrong parents daily.
* 114,500 mismatched pairs of shoes would be shipped per year.
* 18,322 pieces of mail would be mishandled per hour.
* 2,000,000 documents would be lost by the IRS this year. (We
can handle that one!)
* 2.5 million books would be shipped with the wrong covers.
* Two planes landing at Chicago's O'Hare airport would be unsafe
every day.
* 315 entries in Webster's Dictionary would be misspelled.
* 20,000 incorrect drug prescriptions would be written per year.
* 880,000 credit cards in circulation would turn out to have incorrect
cardholder information on their magnetic strips.
* 103,260 income tax returns would be processed incorrectly per
year.
* 5.5 million cases of soft drinks produced would be flat.
* 291 pacemaker operations would be performed incorrectly.
* 3056 copies of tomorrow's Wall Street Journal would be missing
one of the three sections.
* A typical day would be 24 hours long (give or take 86.4 seconds).

This made me think:
"What if God only gave us 99.9%?" That would mean that His Son
would not have died on the cross for our sins. This would mean that
we are condemned under the Law.
What if God only allowed 99.9% of the Holy Spirit to work in our
lives, this would mean that we would not be effective as we are.
What if God only answered 99.9% of our prayers. What a mess we
would be in.
What if God only gave us 99.9% of the Bible. How would know and
fully understand His Kingdom and His love for us? How would we
know what it is to be a committed Christian? How would we know
God?

The way I see it is that God does not hold anything back from His
children he gives 110% all the time. He gave his Son to die for our
sins, He gave us the Holy Spirit to empower us to be like Jesus
and do many "signs and wonders", He answers all our prayers
according to His will for our lives, He gave us His word, the Bible,
so we can read His words and see His greatness and love. His
word also goes for logos (the written word) to rheema (His spoken
word in our lives). When we read a passage in the Bible and it hits
home it has gone from logos to rheema.

Last night I was explaining how God empowers us all with the Holy
Spirit to my Pioneer boys and came up with this example of how
God answers our prayers. "God will provide all our needs. If we ask
for a Super Intendo will God give it to us if knows we will spend
more time on that than reading His word or talking to Him, will He
give it to us? Or if we ask Him for a book that will help us grow as
Christians, do you not think that he will grant it because He knows
it will draw us closer to Him?" Of course he will.

Our Father gave His all, in His Son, how much should we give Him
in return?
Do not settle for second best, give God your best, after all, that's
what He did for you.

There's a storm coming, our Storm.

All,
I've been reading Tom Clancy's book Submarine.
At the training grounds in Groton, Con. the Navy has a saying:
" If you think training is expensive, try ignorance!"
I think as Royal Rangers we can apply this. How many campouts
do you think ended in failure, because the Commanders were not
trained? Likewise how many campouts had the boys wanting more?
Proper training is the key for the future of Royal Rangers.
Do you think the armed forces would turn any yahoo loose with
a M1A Arbams or a 688 without the proper training? Of course not.
But yet we sometimes allow men to lead boys that are poorly trained
or refuse to get training. Isn't of one the requirments for becomeing a
leader
to seek out training. But many refuse it, Why? "I've got work. I have the
knowledge.
I was a Boy Scout. I simply don't have the time."
While these are good reasons. It isn't the answer.
Do we refuse training from the Lord? If we do, he will still give it to
us.
Usually it's when we refuse the Lord's training we learn a thing or two the
hard way.

Each and everone of us hear is in Royal Rangers for a reason.
Some of us was in Rangers from Straight Arrows, while others
of us just got in Rangers.
What is the differance between a good outpost and a great outpost?
I think the answer is in both the leaders and the boys.
In order for us to understand a good vrs great outpost. I think
we must know the meaning of good and great. Webster's Dictionary defines
good as satisfactory or superior in quality. Likewise great is defined as
first rate, excellent.
With the leaders a good vrs great outpost has at least three things. 1. The
attitude
of the leader 2. the dedication of the leader and 3. how willing the leader
is.
While there maybe other qualities in a good vrs great outpost let us look
at
these three qualities.
Attitude.
I think the attitude of the leader is what runs the whole outpost.
Many of us do our best to do a satisfactory job and quite at that.
If you only strive for satisfactory that is what you will get out of the
boys. The attitude of the
commander will be that of the boys. In the moive Top Gun. one of the
officers says this "
There are no points for second place." Likewise being satisfactory and
excellent is what
tells the differance in a good outpost vrs a great outpost.
Dedication.
The dedication of the leader plays a vital part in the outpost. Just
because a leader has
the right attitude and willness does not mean he has dedication.
Dedication shows the
boy you are not just a commander but a friend as well. Dedication not only
comes in the
form of the boys. It also comes in the form of training.
The willings of the leader.
In think willings should be second to attitude. As a leader we must be
willing to do things with
our boys. A great outpost goes to a good to a bad outpost because the
leaders are not willing.
If the leaders are not willing to spend time outside the classroom with
there boys. The boys will
stop coming. What good is taking training if you are not willing to put
into use? It's just a waste of
money and time.
As leaders we need to be examples and our boys need to be examples. With
the new year fastly approaching, now would the time to think about where
you have been and where you want to be.
Remember Chirst gave us his all. Shouldn't we expect our boys to be frist
rate?

Many times I type:

*To Reach,Teach and Keep boys for Christ...

Then I read and think about Character building, Teamwork, Leadership,
Virtues...

Royal Rangers has in it's "program" a Outdoor experiance... a Uniform...

*Is it possible that we should expand the mission statement, to hold and
preserve the
identity of our ministry/program?

Thoughts?

A Good Outpost can hold it's own against any other Royal Ranger group in
everyway..

Achievements, attendence, events ect. they go places and do things..they have
a
functing OP council and
regular award leadership meetings...

However, a GREAT Outpost has the ability to "lift" both the boys the leaders
and the parents to a higher
challenge than what they had thought on arrivial.. A Great Outpost inspires
the
*spirit... and instead
of a gulf between the boys you beging to see the natual friendships blossom<g>
Leaders find they
don't have to fight to speek and boys find they *desire to be a part of
something good<g>

It's a kind of "Dream-like" time.... and you don't want it to end.

In a great outpost the boys "Lead" and care for one another, need no bribes or
"time-outs"...
...everyone plays<g>

*Agreed... "Attitude" is needed but also it is fortified by success!

Success builds confidence and that yeild the right attitude that can reach
out...

*Salemanship has something to do here<G>

When "Teamwork" is successful you begin to see that being the core leader is
not important.
What is important is keeping the "groove factor" underway<G> *What feeds the
"groove?"

Do that<G> BTW you do get points for second place<g> and we are to not worry
about first place....
the "Best Camp" is the happy camp<G>

Somehow this "dedication" has to make a jump from the leader to the boy...

I've from time to time found myself discouraged for various reasons... and it
was
a boy that encouraged me with his "dedication" to continue on... Commanders
pay
day
can be various things, teamwork comming togather, plans made and carried out..
and sometimes just the sparkle in the eye of a boy<G>

You know... Nothing about Cdr.Johnnie Barnes spoke "super-camper" or
"macho-buckskinner" His ability was to make you feel important<g>

He would get to the heart of the matter, challenge and *smile...
...some have told me he had a temper, *I never saw it. He wasn't judgemental,
even though he had strong opinions...

I have fondness for him because of his kindness... honesty and humor<G>

A simple creed would suffice, but beware, the very creed that
can define you, can become the noose that chokes you. We
must somehow retain our flexibility to respond to needs and
the Holy Spirit, yet be determined to preserve the essence of the
ministry. Its a tough road with many dissenting opinions,
but if we "forbear in love", we can succeed and have a great
testimony to all.

Hmmm... I think I like the direction. It doesn't necessarily
assume America is the only place, it covers most of the bases.
I would specifically say:

7. We will strive to make Jesus Christ the center of our lives.

Maybe:

9. We will play hard and fair showing good sportsmanship to all

I've always liked specifics. I think its because I'm a computer guy.

Howdy...
"day dream your "perfect outpost"

One Outpost...
One GREAT Happy Outpost!

One Outpost Council made up of PARENTS who delegate themselves to serve
on something new called a Achievement "board of review" *They must
participate to keep their boy in this excellent "program/Ministry" This
is where the adult leaders come from.

No "Senior Commander" *There is no "Pioneers" no Trailblazers"
*just one Outpost...

ONE COMMANDER

Many... Assistant Commanders!

ONE Senior Guide- "The guy out front"
-------------------

Many assistant senior Guides! (*former patrol guides)
...all have differing jobs in support of the Outpost and Sr.Guide who is
elected by the boys.. and not based on rank or achievement but
*LEADERSHIP QUALITIES

"They plan the meeting- plan the outing-make the menu" They back the
Patrol leaders!
They guide-nuture and encourage as well as advance them selves...

Toughest job in the Outpost?- PATROL GUIDE!

*He takes recruits and makes them Rangers...he explains who is who in
the chain of command! He promotes advancement and explains to the new
boys how to advance
and what is expected.. and motivates them!

(Everyone above re-joices at the day they were relieved of that job<G>
*But they
insist each patrol guide do the job the FULL Job required..)

Assist. Patrol guides "manage" the patrol... who are mixed in ages-
talents and attitudes... the job of the "Patrol leaders" is to make boys

Royal Rangers!

Everyone needs to know and believe the ground rules!

This Outpost is a SAFE HAVEN!

We are Christian brothers and will "forebear in love!"
No bad words...
No fighting...
No attitudes...

This Outpost is built and preserved for you to become the best man you
can be.
