No, I am not. I am saying that RangerNet is for discussions about Royal
Rangers, Bible studies, etc. It is NOT for virus warnings (true or false)
or chain letters (true or false). I'm not saying WHO should post, but
saying WHAT you should post here. If you want to discuss computer viruses,
please join a virus mailing list or Usenet news group and do it there, not
here. If you have the urge to share a virus warning chain letter with us,
please go take a long walk until the urge goes away.

Just because I correct an error doesn't mean that I haven't forgiven that
error.
There is a difference between correcting an error and criticizing. If you
don't see that difference, then avoid me, because I will continue to
correct errors. We are to speak the truth in love. If I were to leave all
of these false rumors unchallenged, it would give credence to them and
cause unnecessary worry. Some people don't like being told they are wrong.
I'm sorry about that, but I'm really not attacking any person, but the
ideas they presented. I do so without regard to who passed on the falsehood.
Maybe I'm out of line. Maybe we should discuss computer viruses and chain
letters in gory detail here. Let's discuss the fact that a Royal Ranger is
HONEST. A Royal Ranger DOESN'T LIE, cheat, or steal. It seems to me that
passing on a hoax would be out of character for a Royal Ranger, doesn't it?
People who pass on a warning because it MIGHT be true and don't check it
out perpetuate the rumor among all who trust them.
Here are some truths about computer viruses:
1. There are some very real and nasty ones. Some of them do propagate via
email. To get one, you have to execute an attached executable, run a macro
in a Word document, or some similar operation. Some of them delete files.
Others just replicate themselves and send email. You can read about them in
great authoritative detail on the web sites of sellers of antivirus
software like http://www.symantec.com and http://www.mcafee.com (and the
last one includes a form where you can subscribe to a free virus
information newsletter).
2. Chain letters, including computer viruses are actually very much like a
computer virus themselves. This is because they keep reproducing and
filling up the Internet, taking up people's time and computer resources.
The main difference between a computer virus and a chain letter is that the
chain letter relies on human intervention to propagate.
