A few months back on one of our Backpack outings one of our Challengers
said. "Hey, I would like to spend New Years Eve up here on this Pilot
Knob and watch the Branson City lights go out, Commander Mark will you
bring us back here" We'll see, I replied.

Thursday night left my house with 6 rangers loaded for a backpack "Freeze
if you Please" outing. I had hoped for snow. We had 60 degree weather
during the day and 30's was the low. It was the best weather ever for a
backpack.

The view ontop of the Pilot Knob was 360 degrees with approx 15 miles in
each direction. (It was a climb let me tell you what). We gathered
firewood for a couple of hours and built a Y2K rock monument on top. We
settled around the campfire from 4:30 to midnight were we saw fireworks
in many directions and loud booms. We could see the city glow from
Branson, MO and the City Glow from Springfield, MO. At 10:00 pm I held a
council fire song and praise, fun and prayer. Topic Fire and Girls. A
very delicate subject that the Lord had given me a few years back but
never felt it was the right time to share it until last night.

We welcomed in the new year and hit the sack!

I had asked my wife if it would be ok with her if I was to take this
group out on 12-30-1999. Sure she said, you know my family. They rented
4 hotel rooms, brought in tons of food and soda and the kids swam in the
pool while they spent the night playing games of all kinds. They are the
game playing champs of all time. I was thinking of my wife and kids as I
knew they were living high on the hog in that hotel room while I was
sitting around the fire in clothes that hadn't been changed in 2 days
plus had caried me and my 45 pound backpack for 3.5 miles into this
wilderness area. We had a grand time just sitting around poking the fire
talking, cooking, pumping water out of the pools of water 1/2 mile away
and fellowshiping and enjoying the most beautiful night sky I had seen in
a long time. The peace and quiet was good for my soul.

Y2K
I had have a BBS up and running since 01-10-1990 and today it doesn't
work. Even the Y2K version that was supposed to be ok logs people off
just as my older version does. What else doesn't work. Only time will
tell! Well I am rambling so "Happy New Year to all my Brothers and
Sisters in Christ on Rangernet"
