For those of you in FCF or interested Ranger Leaders in the Chicago Area, Northern Illinois and Wisconsin Area, I know of a Buckskinning club that is conducting a first person interpreter workshop. It is Lost Valley Chatauqua with the McHenry County Conservation District. They will be meeting in Crystal Lake Il.
First person interpreting is similar to acting but you don't have any
lines prepared. You act like a character such as a Revolutionary War Soldier,
a Mountain Man, etc. but everything you say is a spontaneous response to
what some other character had said or what a visitor says to you. When
you respond you stay in character of the person you are trying to portray.
It is more of a show skill than anything and would not necessarily
have a use at a FCF Trace. It could be used in your outpost doing a devotion
or showing to the public what FCF is about. At Territorial Trace we did
something similar to this in trying to get the young bucks to solve a murder
mystery. I portrayed Lord Griffith Well Off but I could have done a better
job than I did.
This is a good art to know but I have seen some at public rendezvous
and at Civil War reenactments get so caught up into their character that
they forget who they really are.
