I'm known as trader jim or traderjh and I hail from the North San Joaquin Section of the So Cal District. I'm a Sectional Commander and have been in Rangers for some 20+++ years. I have read with interest the recent messages about NTC and checked out the log at the web site. Since I went through in '79, it doesn't seem to have changed all that much in all these years. I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it to everyone to attend. We had and still do have the Knotty, but it was and still is handled without degrading someone. When we broke a rule, we were "Awarded" the Knotty. We took it as a kind reprimand and strove to do better next time. A Commander from a neighboring Section attended NTC last Fall in the Northern California/Nevada District and came back full of zeal to press on in the Ranger Ministry. There was no mention of any such things from him. It appears to me that the Sr. Guide in this case became a little over zealous in carrying out his duties. Possibly now that Richard Mariot has taken over the reigns as the new National Commander, he might want to look into this issue. It might be something like what happened to FCF when some people became carried away, they had to make changes for the better.
