Honor is a gift we give to one another. How do we
honor our Rangers who achieve their merits/ and ranks, whose behaviors improve
over time, or who diligently show up to meetings and events? Do we recognize the
significance of their achievements or do we discount them or worse expect
more?
Consider the boy/girl who just completed his/her
rank achievement. Do we reward them by saying, "Good job!" OR "It's About TIME!" How quick we are to judge others and how
seldom do we demonstrate true honor and respect to others.
One of the best ways we can close a young person's
spirit is to make sarcastic jokes, comments or demeaning remarks when they make
a mistake or when WE feel they are not working as hard as WE would want them to.
It's a difficult thing to consciously be aware of lifting one another up by
positive, encouraging words and showing those who are younger than us respect
and honor. We preach to our young students to Honor and respect those in
authority, yet do we in turn show them the honor due them? When we as adult
leaders honor and recognize one of our rangers, we do more than make them feel
good. We are actually building them up spiritually and helping them do their
best.
