7 S's of a Council Fire are
1. Setting
- first impression
- it should be of some natural amphitheater style
- totem poles add color, teepee, flags, some kind of props
- let God's creation show
2. Starting
- safety first - DO NOT use black powder or gasoline in or around the fire
- Dramatic
- Variety - examples of different fire starters and methods available
3. Singing
- extremely important
- Start with songs that everyone knows
note: Let the fire itself be the method in determining the crescendo of the
songs. Remember the old western movies?? When the good guys are chasing the
bad guys across the plains - it's the William Tell Overture, but when things
die down and the hero is kissing the girl - it's Moonlight and Roses. At the
start of the fire, when the flames are high, the music should be bright. When
the flames are lower, slower more worshipful songs enhance the reflective
thought process. It is a natural phenomen that must be exploited for God's
purposes.
4. Stunts/Skits
- review all stunts before the council fire
- be cautious in making a person the brunt of a joke
- respect property
5. Stories
- Don't overlook this important aspect. Someone in the group can tell a
story. It can be true, historical, a tale of something that happened, or it
could be a short story about a great person.
6. Showmanship
- costumes, etc. help here. Participants should have good costuming.
7. Spiritual
- Not a sermon, but a devotion or a thought followed by an invitation,
usually preceded by a good soft spiritual song,
I hope this helps
serving only one master... Jesus
