Like Mark, I just returned from the So. Mo.
District Cmdr. Conference. It was a great time. The entire National Staff was
indeed there and helping out ( I mean with everything, like cooking, puttting
away tables and chairs, Normal Ranger leader stuff). You really have to love
these guys! That was just one of the great things about the weekend. It was
kinda like the old days to be there after the hoopla stacking chairs with the
National Commander. Not that I'm that old, but I got the oppotunity to work
beside Johnnie a couple of times and he was just a prince of a man.
The staff is aware of the fact that the on-line
slide show loses something without the verbage that they normally say with the
slideshow. They are suppose to update it (maybe in the next week or two) to
improve this. You REALLY need to HEAR the presentation as well as see it before
you go making any judgements.
The have made several changes to the
presentation just since National Council that I personally really like. For
example representing the number of merits a boy has earned by Class B ribbons on
the uniform.
The new plan is good and will work very well.
And they ARE going to do it! What we need to be looking at at this point is the
curriculum and insuring that in the new plan, we cover all the important
information we always have. This is where we will maintain equivalency. There
are Commanders (like us) scattered all over the country writing all new
outlines. Let's pray for these guys too.
The goal is to reach every boy (and girl in
other countries) with the gospel. As much as I love camping and Rangers, if we
can reach an extra 5 million kids and they get saved without camping (God
forbid), I would not want to be one standing in the way whining about our
traditions.
Some testimony, some opinion
