Yesterday (Sunday) I cut an article out of the newspaper concerning the new
lock down program for public schools. It disturbed me and I want to share
with you.

Because of the school shootings, there is a new program being instituted
across the nation called the "lock down". When there is a signal, the
teachers are instructed to tell the children to get down on the floor, she
locks the door and turns out the lights. The children are told to stay down
and away from the windows. Under the desks or in the corners are desirable.
This way, shooters can't see them from the hall or outside. I am ancient,
and I remember having to get under the desks in case of an air raid, or in
the hall on the floor with our hands covering our heads and our heads between
our knees. We also lived in tornado country and had signals for that too.

Our children, (our own and our rangers) live daily with the fear of the
unknown. They can't play hide and seek or tag in the twilight, they can't
spend their Sunday afternoons playing alone in the park, the door has to be
locked and they can't answer a stranger who greets them or asks for
directions. My husband and I have taught school for years. I taught Chapter
One reading and language arts. One day I had my 12:30 class of first graders
in the room and a little boy announced his daddy stabbed his grandmother and
killed her the week before (it was true) the boy (6) witnessed it. Story
after story came out and out of 22 children in the room, 19 witnessed
violence IN THEIR OWN HOMES! One of my third grade girls was kidnapped and
killed, two of my third grade and one fourth grade boy was arrested for
pushing. I won't go on and on. I'm just saying it is time to stop 'gagging
on a gnat'. Reach teach and KEEP....they are the ones that will decide the
laws concerning you when you are old. There, I have that off my chest. It
would do good to keep an ear on the ground concerning the schools your
rangers attend and their policies. Go to games, cheer on, be seen...you'll
reap a rich harvest. Sorry for the length. Janet Nahum 1:7
