The rule of thumb that I heard years ago, and that I applied when I was a
divisional commander, is that you wear the rank below that of the person
you report to. Thus, a divisional commander wears the silver oak leaf
(because he reports to the district commander), and his staff would wear
the gold oak leaf, just as a sectional commander wears the gold oak leaf
and his staff wears the blue. But you won't find that in the Leaders Manual!
