Just a point of interest.  The people who settled in the Appalachians are 
often found to be related to Scottish royalty.  During uprisings, the 
aristocracy was driven out and they immigrated.  The songs and music and 
simple style of living came from royal people bravely adapting to the harsh 
new land.  Their faith was deep and abiding and showed in thier music, crafts 
and home made laws.  The book "Christy" is a real-life account of Catherine 
Marshal's grandmother going from city life of comfort to these people to 
teach school as an answer to God's call.  It would open your eyes to the kind 
of people who were interviewed to compile Foxfire books.  Janet
