Dear Rangernetters:
does anybody have any suggestions: I am a Pioneer Commander and want to use summers as a time for campouts where we practice the fundamentals and give them a taste of  wilderness adventures. At the Pioneer age I feel that it is time to take them on a small backpack trip or two hours of canoeing down a gentle stream, etc. When they get to the older groups they already know what these trips are like and they will seek the challenging adventures.
I wanted to take the Pioneers to a water park and camp nearby but when I asked how many could swim there was only a couple of hands raised. I don't want to take these boys as an outpost on a swimming activity unless I have boys that can at least tread water. This is a safety precaution I had learned as a Assistant Scout Master. If I were all of these boys fathwer I could do whatever I think is best but as their Pioneer commander I would be taking on too much responsibility for somebody elses boy.

Does anybody have any ideas on what we can do to make swimmers out of non swimmers. does anybody else have any other creative ideas for campout themes?
