One of the things I do when we are getting our food for Pow-Wow is to shop
at Albertsons on the way to work. (other local grocery stores may do the
same thing). We usually plan on some meals that require hamburger.
Albertsons sells "yesterdays grind" hamburger for $0.79 (yes, that's 79
cents) a pound.

Since, by law they can not sell hamburger that is over a certain age, they
sell all ground hamburger for a really low price. I went in once last
year, and bought about 12 lbs., about half of which was 85% lean, and had
been ground around midnight the night before. The hamburger was still very
fresh, but by law they could not sell it as "today's" grind.

This, coupons, double coupons, etc., can really reduce your camp food bill.

I want to find out where you shop. We can't get away with much less than 6
or 7 dollars a day for food. We have to fix all our own breakfast though.
Sounds good.

Our boys are paying $25 each for the pow-wow. This price includes $12 for
registration, $7 for a t-shirt, and all meals. We take the church bus to
powwow, so there is very little expense for us there. The real trick is
feeding a boy 8 meals for $6. (It doesn't really happen, but we try!)

A rough menu:

Thursday:
Lunch - eat before coming to church.
Dinner - Pepperoni tacos and pizza (pizza donated by pizza hut)

Friday:
Breakfast - eggs, bacon, sausage, bacon, hashbrowns, biscuits, (maybe
grits)
Lunch - Coldcut sandwiches
Dinner - Hamburger, baked beans, chips

Saturday:
Breakfast - cooked by district
Lunch - Hotdogs, chips
Dinner - Smoked Brisket, mashed potatoes, corn, peas, salad

Sunday:
Breakfast - cooked by district
Lunch - coldcut sandwiches and leftovers from Saturday night

Mixed in with the meals are servings of fruit, snacks, and drinks.

Saturday night after council fire, we will be making homemade rootbeer and
homemade icecream --- Rootbeer floats if you like.

Rangernetters, be sure to drop by and visit.
