We constructed an evaporative cooler the other evening in our Rangers class
(this being one of the things we are scored on at District Pow-Wow). I
could not, however, get the wicking action of the water down the
cheesecloth "sack" to happen. Does anyone know what I may have been doing
wrong, how to do it better, etc.?

I used a small plastic bucker (6 in. x 5 in. round).
Laid out the cheesecloth square.
Brought one side of the cheesecloth over to the other side (folded it in
half for better explaination)
Tied off one end of the cheesecloth.
Took the other end (the open end), formed it into a circle, and placed the
bucket inside the cheesecloth tube.
I then wrapped the cheesecloth over the top of the bucket, and into the
bottom of the bucket for about 4 in. of the cheesecloth.
I then filled the bucket half full with water.

The cheesecloth would get wet up to the inside top of the bucket, but would
not wick up, over, and down the cheesecloth.

?!?!?!?
