On my first day in Royal Rangers, I took my son, Nathaniel to Straight Arrows, and
volunteered to stay and help. The current Straight Arrow Chief and Senior Commander
was Mike LaLiberty (AKA "Frenchie"). We became good friends as we served together, and
I learned a lot from him about excellence in Royal Rangers. Now that my Straight Arrow
is a Trailblazer and I have served in a variety of positions in our outpost, I still
remember and benefit from Mike LaLiberty's training. While I miss Mike around
Longmont, I know that he is doing what is on his heart, and I rejoice with him as he
takes on the challenges of Pioneers-Trailblazers Coordinator. Mike brings a lot of
wisdom, experience, and passion to the job. Praise God!

** DOSTAL AND LALIBERTY FILL NEW POSITIONS AT
   ROYAL RANGERS

Royal Rangers, the Assemblies of God's national ministry to boys,
recently appointed two long-time district leaders to national
positions. Rick Dostal was appointed as national training
coordinator in February. Mike Laliberty was appointed as
Pioneers-Trailblazers coordinator for the national Royal Rangers
   Office on March 1.

Dostal's responsibilities include the coordination of all national
training camps offered through the Royal Rangers ministry. He also
serves as National Camporama and National Rendezvous coordinator.
Prior to his appointment, Dostal worked 7 years as a building
inspector for the city of Pittsburg, Calif., after working as a
superintendent and journeyman carpenter for 15 years. He has been
involved in the Royal Rangers ministry since 1978, serving as the
Northern California-Nevada District FCF president for the past 6
years and as FCF vice president and divisional representative in
the Southern California District. Dostal has served as commander
of the following positions: sectional, area, senior, Trail
Rangers, Trailblazers, Pioneers, Buckaroos, and Straight Arrows,
along with serving in his local church as board member and Sunday
   school superintendent and teacher.

Laliberty was employed as an electrical engineer and programmer
with IBM in Longmont, Colo., for more than 25 years. He has more
than 23 years of experience in a variety of leadership roles with
the Royal Rangers ministry, serving as a group leader in every
outpost group except Pioneers. He most recently served as
lieutenant commander in his local outpost and served as a senior
commander for 15 years. He has held a variety of other positions,
such as Leadership Training Course instructor, section commander,
district Frontiersmen Camping Fellowship vice president, district
FCF president, and most recently as district training coordinator.
With this wealth of experience in Royal Rangers, Laliberty will
coordinate the writing of the new curricula and training for
the Pioneers and Trailblazers programs for the national
   Royal Rangers ministry.

** PASTOR OF WORLD'S LARGEST CHURCH ENDORSES
   MINISTRY BY WOMEN

"Don't be afraid to empower women," says the pastor of the world's
largest church. Churches are wrong not to let women become
spiritual leaders, David Yonggi Cho told church leaders at a
"Discipling a Whole Nation" conference in Italy. "If you ever
train the women, and delegate your ministry to them, they will
become tremendous messengers for the Lord."

Most leaders at Cho's Yoido Full Gospel Church in Seoul, Korea,
are women. The 700,000-member congregation is divided into 50,000
cell groups that meet in homes, and about 47,000 cell leaders are
women, he said. Of the church's 600 associate pastors, 400 are
women. "In ministry they are equal with men," he said. "They are
licensed. They are ordained. They become deaconesses and elders."

Cho adopted the cell church principle in 1964 after he collapsed
from exhaustion trying to minister to his then 3,000-member
congregation. His male leaders balked when he told them to divide
the congregation into cells that meet in their homes. "They said,
'Fine, but we are not trained to do that and we are not paid to do
that. Why don't you have a long vacation?' This is the Korean way
of saying 'Why don't you resign from the church?' "

When he asked the women leaders to do it, they said, "Teach us,
pastor. We will do anything for you," he said. The church grew
from 3,000 to 18,000 in the next five years. The cell churches
started new cell churches and more lay leaders got involved
in ministry, Cho said. "It is the will of God to have a
   growing church."

** A/G COLLEGES

...School of Missions held at CBC

For 42 years the Assemblies of God Division of Foreign Missions
has conducted Pre-Field Orientation and School of Missions for
individuals and families who have been called to take the gospel
around the world. For many of those years, this training has taken
place on the campus of Central Bible College (Springfield, Mo.).

For one week, all new missionaries participate in Pre-Field
Orientation. They participate in practical training. They learn
important issues about cross-cultural communication, managing
finances from overseas, preparing for itineration, the nature of
spiritual warfare, and communicating the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Missionary Associates, who commit 1 to 2 years of their lives to
missions, attend Pre-Field Orientation for 1 1/2 weeks. Missionary
Candidates, those who will be full-time career missionaries,
participate in Pre-Field Orientation for 3 weeks. Missionaries
returning from the field participate in Re-entry, Enrichment, and
Development activities as they begin their furloughs.

This year 80 Missionary Associates (30 children), 64 Candidates
   (30 children), and 35 re-entry missionaries (15 children) have
been involved in the PFO. Some 220 missionaries and 190 missionary
children are expected for School of Missions.

The number of Missionary Associates continues to grow. Last year's
record of 60 MA's was topped by 20 this year. That is a growth
rate of 33 percent in one year.

Central Bible College is one of 18 endorsed A/G postsecondary
   schools.

...EU students return from studies in France and Belgium

Twelve Evangel University (Springfield, Mo.) students are
scheduled to return to Springfield today from a 5-week summer
study session in France and Belgium.

Dr. Robert Turnbull, professor of French and chairman of the
Department of Humanities at Evangel, is director of Evangel's
Summer Overseas Studies program offered biennially to students who
want to study the French language and culture. Three hours of
credit are earned when the students successfully complete
   the coursework.

Excursions included visits to Paris, Versailles, Chartres,
Normandy, Brussels, Bruges, Ghent and Villiers-Sur-Ville. The
students visited numerous historical sites, including castles,
monasteries, museums, cathedrals, a World War II concentration
   camp and D-Day beaches.

Methods of learning included the formal classroom setting, as well
as immersion into the culture through practical activities, such
as traveling on public transportation, conversing with the French
people, and worshiping in a local church.

** A/G DISTRICTS

Louisiana: The district's Women's Ministries Department recently
presented the Miriam Award and Deborah Award to members of the Dan
Barth family. The Barths were involved in a severe auto accident
while traveling through Missouri in June of 1999. Lauren Barth
received the Missionettes' Miriam Award for spiritual fortitude in
a time of crisis and the saving of a life. Despite her own
injuries, Lauren crawled out of the family van and ran along the
highway to find her mother. She found her mother, Judy, and stayed
with her and kept her from being moved by passersby until medical
aid could arrive. Judy and her other daughter Elizabeth were
presented with the first National Deborah Award. The Deborah Award
is given to women who have demonstrated exceptional fortitude in
the face of great danger and catastrophe. Judy has had many
opportunities to share with others the faithfulness of God. To the
surprise of her physicians, Judy is beginning to walk after being
pronounced permanently paralyzed from the accident. Elizabeth
Barth shared the Deborah Award with her mother in recognition of
her own strength and maturity shown during the crisis. The Barths
attend Bethel Assembly of God in Shreveport (the Rev. Darrel
   Miller, senior pastor).

Pennsylvania-Delaware: "Thank you to all who have responded so
enthusiastically to the cause of church planting in the Penn-Del
District," says the Rev. Steve Tourville, district administrative
assistant. "Our Penn-Del Women's Ministries contributed a record
amount of $32,000." Tourville reports that District Council faith
promises and offerings for church planting came to $205,000.
"Every dollar represents an opportunity for someone to hear the
Good News of Jesus Christ," Tourville says.
