Some of you will know that words and communication
are my hobby horse. Some time ago, I received some junk mail from a "psychic
astrologer" and felt moved to reply to her in a similar vein to share the
gospel. At the time I did not but God, in his mercy, has given me a second
chance which I have taken. Over and above that I began to think about how we
share the gospel and I have prepared a "junk mail" letter which can be used as a
method of proclaiming the gospel. I have inserted it below and I am more than
happy for you to use it as you see fit. All I would ask is that you let me know
of any successes. The part which will need changing is the paragraph with the
personal testimony. Please substitute your own but I suggest that you do not
over elaborate. If you are struggling please feel free to contact me for
help.

Dear Before you throw this letter away as just another piece of junk mail, I want to assure you that what I am about to tell you could CHANGE YOUR LIFE and will COST ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! The reason I know this is that someone told me the same thing and it changed my life and cost me absolutely nothing (in fact, I gained so much I still can’t believe it). Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am 49 years old, married for (nearly) 25 years and I have two children in University. Seventeen years ago I was on the brink of suicide. -. Why? I just knew that I could not live life the way that I wanted to live it. As the song says there was just NO SATISFACTION. Is this sounding familiar? What changed it for me?... I met the most powerful being in the Universe, someone so awe inspiring that I still marvel at the fact that he was, and is, interested in me. If this were a normal junk mail "come-on" I would now start telling you about how my health, wealth and happiness increased and what it will cost you to achieve the same. Well, my health wealth and happiness did increase, but that was despite the fact that I lost my job and the bank recalled my cheque book and card. Not what you would normally call success but the fact was that I had tapped in to the source of supply and jobs and bank cards weren’t necessary (my son got more birthday presents for �5 than he had ever had before). In three and a half years of my being out of work, we went without a car for 2 weeks (approx). We never failed to have an annual holiday. It cost me (on balance) �0.00. So what did I have to do to receive these blessings - surprisingly little? I had to accept the gift that had already been set aside for me. What’s more THE SAME GIFT HAS BEEN SET ASIDE FOR YOU! Before I tell you how to receive this gift I want to guard against your (natural) cynical reaction. You see this gift has been offered many times with strings attached. I promise you right now that I attach NO STRINGS to this gift. The gift I offer to you is forgiveness for EVERYTHING you have done (and will do) wrong and a personal relationship with ALMIGHTY GOD. God himself promises this in his book. If you have a bible (the perennial best seller), take a look at the book of John chapter 3 verse 16. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son that WHOEVER believes in him may not perish but have eternal life". Or, to make it even more relevant, "For God so loved ………….. that he gave his one and only Son that ………. may not perish but have eternal life". The proviso being that you have to believe in him. Now the phrase, "believes in him" has a special meaning. It does not mean that you simply believe that he existed (there is enough historical evidence to prove this beyond reasonable doubt). It means that you must believe that he was the Son of God, that he died on a cross, and that he came back to life again FOR YOU! If you have difficulty with this you can ask God to prove it (but be prepared to act on his proof) or you can take a step of faith and pray this prayer: "Lord God, my life is not what I want it to be. Someone is telling me that this is because I do not have Jesus in my life. If this is true please, Jesus, please be in my life. I am sorry for all the things that I have done wrong and I ask you to forgive me".You will know that your prayer has been answered by the peace and joy that you receive. To receive more blessings you should start to read the bible. The best place to start is actually at the New Testament rather than the Old. It is likely that you will want to share your new experience and the best place to do this is with other people who have experienced what you have experienced. You need to join the local "club". The name of this club is the church but you will find that there are many local branches. Feel free to join the branch that makes you feel most comfortable and always remember that you have a direct line to the president of the club – God. If there is something you are not sure about ask him and he will tell you – somehow (FYI asking God is also called praying and you can talk to him as if you were talking to your best friend). This branch of the club is ……………………. and we would love to see you and hear about your experiences with our Father (God). Please meet us on Sunday at ……….. or …….. or even ?day at ……….
