Shish kabobs: load clean sticks with bits of meat, potatoes, carrots, & onions. Have
the boys each roast their own over an open fire.

Aluminum foil dinner: put hamburger, potatoes, carrots, & onions in foil. Throw foil
on a bed of coals. When sizzling, remove, test meat to see if it is done. If not,
re-seal it & throw it back, otherwise, serve it. Be sure to have tongs and/or
potholders handy (or some improvised stick implements) to avoid burning fingers.

Melted sneaker surprise: don't put your sneakers too close to the fire while
cooking,or you may get this one. Apply water quickly to avoid burning skin. Not for
human consumption.

Light weight backpacking supper: boil 3-4 cups of water per person. Use one cup for
instant soup mix (like Lipton's Cup-A-Soup or similar packets; choose your favorite
flavor). Use another cup for hot chocolate mix (marshmallows optional). Serve with
crackers, cheese, and dried fruit. Use the last of the hot water to clean up with
(soapy water, rinse water, hot second rinse).

Trail mix (also known as "gorp"): mix granola, sunflower seeds, peanuts, granola, M&Ms
or chocolate chips, raisins, and optionally other dried fruits and nuts to taste. Add
salt to taste. Munch on during rest stops on trail and as part of a no-cook lunch.

Buckaroo camp-in food: order out for pizza; serve with fruit and/or salad. Have ice
cream for desert. :-)

S'mores: Roast marshmallows to a golden brown with gooey insides (give or take your
skill and tastes -- some like them burnt, others a little less done). Smash roasted
marshmallow between gram crackers and a chunk of chocolate bar. Savor the flavor while
telling stories around the campfire, then ask for s'more. Repeat until full or the
supply is exhausted.

Light backpacking lunch: beef jerky, crackers, dried fruit, trail mix, water.

RangerNet special meal: Organize patrols to serve grits, vegemite on toast, fried spam
slices, and a root beer float (a scoop of vanilla ice cream floating in a tall glass
of root beer). Finish off with an Uncle Joe's mint ball, then discuss devotions,
games, lesson plans, camping, field trips, hikes, canoeing, and other cool Royal
Ranger stuff.
