CAN A CHRISTIAN VOTE FOR AL GORE & JOE LIEBERMAN?
Ten Points From A Biblical Perspective and this I pray, that your love may
abound in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things
that are excellent to the glory and praise of God. (Phil 1:9-11).
If they say..."Throw in your lot with us..." do not go along with them,
do not set foot on their paths; for their feet rush into sin, they are swift
to shed blood (Pr 1:11-16).
In 1992, politically alert Christians urged their brethren, especially
pastors and leaders, to carefully examine candidate Bill Clinton's
record, vision and agenda. Some did, but, clearly, many did not. It is now a
matter of record that without the votes of professing evangelical
Christians, Clinton could never have been elected (37% of self-declared
born-again believers voted for him in 1992, 38% did so in 1996). What
motivated these Christians to vote for a man whose values so thoroughly
contradicted their Christian faith? And, more to the point now, will a
substantial number of believers make the same mistake again with Al Gore?
The founders and early leaders of our young country believed that the
election of God-fearing men was essential for the survival of our nation.
For example, Noah Webster wrote: "God commands you to choose for rulers just
men who will rule in the fear of God... If the citizens neglect their duty
the government will soon be corrupted; laws will be made [for] selfish or
local purposes; corrupt or incompetent men will be appointed to execute the
laws "
(Wm. Federer, America's God & Country, Fame Publishing, 1994, pp.
678-679).
John Adams, in a speech to our country's military forces, said: "We have no
government armed with power capable of contending with human passions
unbridled by morality and religion Our Constitution was made only for a
moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any
other" (ibid., pg. 11).
George Washington himself stated flatly: "It is impossible to rightly govern
the world without God and the Bible" (ibid., pg. 660).
In the view of The Capitol Hill Prayer Alert Committee Election Fund,
Al Gore and Joe Lieberman do not meet the qualifications for leadership
Outlined in Scripture and envisioned by our nation's founders. If they are
elected, we believe America will enter a new dark night of the soul. Gore
and Lieberman will further weaken the nation we love and hasten its slide
into barbarism and ruin. We have thoroughly researched Gore's and
Lieberman's words and actions ("By their fruits you shall know them" - Mt
7:20) and we invite our readers to examine for themselves their records and
their campaign statements
in light of the commandments of God in Holy Scripture. Viewed through the
prism of God's standards, we sincerely believe it is utterly impossible for
a Christian who claims to be following God's Word to support Al Gore for
president and Joe Lieberman for vice president.
Our "case" for making such an unequivocal statement follows:
1. Gore & Lieberman Advocate the Murder of Children, Partially Born &
Unborn The preciousness and eternal value God attaches to every
human life (created in His own image) is a major theme of Scripture.
God promises to punish all who shed innocent blood, holding even
bystanders responsible and punishing entire families for passively
tolerating innocent bloodshed (Lev 20:1-5; Pr 24:11-12). God vows to
destroy every nation that minimizes the value of human life by
approving and allowing the murder of innocent human beings including
the helpless unborn and partially born (Ex 21:22-23; Ps 9:17).
If elected, Al Gore and Joe Lieberman will become the world's
Foremost abortion champions. During the primaries Gore boasted he
was more "pro-choice" than ultra-pro-abortion former Sen. Bill
Bradley. No other presidential candidate in history, including Bill
Clinton, has been more dedicated to promoting abortion than Al Gore.
As a young congressman Gore voted pro-life, but he now supports
partial-birth abortion, opposes parental notification laws, and has
repeatedly pledged he will "never allow a woman's right to choose
[abortion] to be taken away." Gore, like Clinton, will seek to crush
pro-life activism and punish pro-life activists through vengeful
legislation and by exercising the raw power of the Justice
Department. Meanwhile, abortionists will receive VIP treatment and
special protection, as they did under the Clinton-Gore
administration.
If God would not forgive Israel for innocent bloodshed and if He
Punished the Israelites accordingly (Gen 4:9-11; 9:5-6; Ex 20:13;
Dt 19:10-13; 2Kg 24:4; Pr 24:11-12), what will He do to America if
we continue down this terrible path? Gore-Lieberman's advocacy of
abortion, a practice God hates, disqualifies them both from
receiving a single vote from genuine, Bible-believing Christians,
or, for that matter, orthodox Jews and other God-fearing Americans.
2. Gore & Lieberman Advocate Homosexuality & Special Homosexual
Rights God's law is unequivocally clear: Homosexuality is an
abomination (Lev 18:22). Sodom and Gomorrah serve as a warning
to every generation that God will destroy those who embrace this
perversion (Gen 13:10). God warns that " if you defile the land
[through sodomy], it will vomit you out " (Lev 18:22-30). The New
Testament declares homosexuality "worthy of death" and
practitioners as well as those who approve of this behavior evoke
God's wrath (Mt 23:15; Rom 1:25-32; 2 Tim 3:5-9; Heb 13:4). Those
who reject this truth are without excuse (Rom 1:18-20). Those who
teach children to accept this
abomination will wish they had never been born (Mt 18:6;
Mk 2:42-29).
As Vice President, Al Gore labored to advance the gay agenda and
helped to make the Clinton-Gore administration the most
"gay-friendly" administration in history. He pledges, if elected
president, to eliminate the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"
policy and make acceptance of open homosexuality a "litmus test" for
the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The Clinton-Gore administration promoted
the homosexual agenda in many ways, including pro-gay affirmative
action within federal agencies, appointment of activist homosexuals
to federal judge and ambassadorships, presidential directives
mandating homosexual tolerance and teaching in public schools, etc.
Their administration created a pro-homosexual climate in America
that can be "credited" with advancing the homosexual cause in the
states (e.g., recognition of homosexual "unions" in Vermont) and in
the business world (spousal benefits for homosexual partners).
3) A Gore Presidency Will Continue the Systematic Destruction of
the Family God created the family to be the cornerstone of human
civilization. Yet, for more than a generation, the family has been
under massive, systematic attack. The triumph of the feminist
revolution in America is nearly complete. For this, the Clinton-Gore
Administration must be given much "credit."
Government policy, especially atheistic public school
indoctrination, has played a major role in producing the present
condition of the American family: absentee and renegade fathers,
rebellious teenagers, epidemic divorce, prevalent teen sexual
activity, previously unthinkable rates of teen pregnancy and out
of wedlock births, an epidemic of sexually transmitted diseases,
fatherless children, single and working moms (78% of women with
children 6-17 now work outside the home), tax "slavery" for working
parents, and government-approved homosexual "unions." Clinton and
Gore did not start these trends, of course, but their policies have
played a major part in reducing the American family to a shell of
what it was just 50 years ago.
While Al Gore touts support for "family issues," he is in fact
Committed to continuing Bill Clinton's anti-family policies of
abortion, feminism and homosexuality which are destroying the family
and will ultimately destroy America.
God declares that any man who fails to provide for his own family
has "denied the faith and is worse than an infidel." Christians who
vote for men and women who advocate ideas destructive to the God-
ordained family utterly deny the faith (Gen 1:27-28; 2:23-24; 18:19;
Dt 6:4-7; Neh 4:14; Is 3:12-15; Eph 5:22-6:4; Col 3:16-21;
1 Tim 3:4; 5:8).
4. Gore Will Appoint Judges Who Are Hostile To Christianity
One of a president's most far-reaching powers is his authority to
appoint Supreme Court justices and federal court judges, all of whom
serve for life. It is true that Republican presidents have sometimes
erred by appointing questionable judges who, over time, have proven
to be closet liberals; but Clinton and Gore have purposefully
appointed moral insurrectionists,
activists who have aggressively used their judicial authority to
re-fashion America into a country devoid of the moral virtues our
founders believed were necessary for the survival of our nation.
Al Gore has expressed approval of the recent Supreme Court decisions
that banned student-initiated, student-led prayer at school sporting
events and that overturned state bans on the barbaric partial-birth
abortion procedure, two recent examples of outrageous judicial
tyranny.
Al Gore will appoint radical judges who will boldly advance the
causes of feminism, abortion and homosexuality and who will continue
to wage war against the family and the Church. Even if America
elects a conservative president in 2000, it will be decades before
the cadre of super-liberal lifetime judges the Clinton-Gore
administration has installed begin to retire. Four or eight more
years of Gore appointments would create a Supreme Court and federal
judiciary so liberal as to be unimaginable (Dt 16:18-20; Pr 16:12;
17:15; 22:28; Is 59:2-15; Mic 3:9-12).
5. Clinton-Style Ethics & Justice Will Continue Under Gore-Lieberman
God promises to bless nations that pursue truth and justice and to
curse nations that do not (Ps 64:6-9; 89:14-15; Is 59:1-15). Yet
the Clinton-Gore Administration has been a cesspool of lies and
injustice. Unresolved ethics problems (such as illegal shakedown-
style fundraising calls, the Buddhist temple affair, and lies about
both) besmirch Al Gore's once "Mr. Clean" image.
Gore defended Clinton's ethics during the Lewinsky saga and
Throughout his impeachment. (Who will ever forget Gore's
proclamation, on the day of the
House impeachment vote, that President Clinton is one of "our
greatest presidents?!") A Gore Administration will mean more of
such ethics (Ex 18:21a; Is 1:23-28).
6. Gore Will Expand State Indoctrination of America's Children
God has commanded parents to inculcate their children with
Scripture and a Christian worldview (Dt 6:4-9; Eph 6:4). But Gore
wants to increase federal control of America's schools to more
effectively indoctrinate our children with humanism, feminism,
idolatry, perverted sex education (homosexuality) and liberal
correctness, expanding upon what he and Bill Clinton have
already accomplished.
Gore panders to the liberal teachers, lobby. In addresses to
members of the National Education Association (NEA), he is
routinely unsubtle in his antagonism toward parents who home
school or send their children to private schools (although Gore
himself and all of his children attended private schools).
Proudly "pro-choice" on abortion, Gore is decidedly anti-choice
toward families who want non-government education for their
children. He is an ardent enemy of school "voucher" programs and
has promised billions of additional federal dollars to arm public
schools in the war for control of our children's faith and future.
The question that faces American families is, "Who owns the
children?" The Bible teaches that parents - not government - are
ultimately responsible for teaching their children. There is no
middle ground.
Gore has pledged to establish universal pre-school for four-year-
olds, with a pre-school in every public elementary school. This bid
for access to our children during their most impressionable years
is dead wrong and frightening (Dt 6:4-7; 11:18-21; 1 Sam 8:9-18;
Pr 22:6; Jer 9:2a; Mt 18:5-6; Eph 6:4).
7. Gore Will Continue to Supplant American Liberty with Humanist
Socialism when the Declaration of Independence was signed, patriot
Sam Adams exclaimed, "We have this day restored the Sovereign
(Jesus) to Whom all men ought to be obedient. He reigns in heaven
and from the rising to the setting of the sun. Let His kingdom
come." But socialistic government and economics have slowly
displaced individual liberty and the Lordship of Christ in
America. More and more Americans, like the ancient Israelites who
Wanted "a king," happily look to government, rather than God, to
meet their needs (1Sam 8:6-7). As it states in the Humanist
Manifesto, socialists believe that, "There is no God, therefore we
must save ourselves." Rejecting limited government as ordained by
God (see Romans 13) and as envisioned by our nation's founders,
socialists see government as the means to salvation, i.e., the
elimination of poverty, universal education, universal health care,
etc. But to make such a system work, earthly "lords" must
confiscate income (e.g., taxes) from productive workers to fund an
endless array of government programs and benefits. History's
experiments with socialism (e.g., the Soviet Union, China, Cuba,
North Korea) have all ended in financial and cultural
bankruptcy. Yet Al Gore, undaunted by history, nurtures an
unadulterated socialistic "Big Government" vision for America.
Gore, for example, was an avid supporter of Hillary Clinton's bold
plan to nationalize our health insurance system. He promises to
expand Medicare and Medicaid and create many new health
entitlements, ultimately to provide cradle to grave "health care
for all Americans." Gore rejects all free-market retirement
alternatives and instead plans to shore up the 1930s-model
Social Security system -- even if it means a substantial increase
in taxes (Ex 20:15; 1 Sam 8:10-18; Neh 5:3-5). Unfortunately, many
Americans love these ideas. The consequence would be that
socialist-style big government would dramatically escalate under
Gore.
8. Gore's Worship of "The Environment" Will Weaken America
Scripture teaches that God created the earth for man to govern for
his benefit, but the earth is not to be worshiped (Gen 1:26-30;
Rom 1:20-25). In his book, "Earth in the Balance," Gore reveals
himself to be an environmental idolater who more than partly blames
Christian doctrine for man's abuse of his environment (!!). Gore
believes that contemporary pagans, whose roots pre-date
Christianity and who consider plants and animals equal to humans,
have a superior worldview to Christians. He would try to
indoctrinate our children with his radical beliefs and would seek
to impose them upon businesses, states, cities, towns, and
individual property owners via far-reaching rules and regulations,
by unconstitutional "takings" of land, and by spending federal tax
dollars to finance his pet environmental projects. He also has an
ambitious plan to use future federal budget surpluses to make
massive new government land acquisitions across America.
Gore envisions forging a union between world religions and
governments to spread his doctrine of universal earth worship, with
implications that go far beyond his goal to establish an all-
powerful new international organization, a worldwide EPA
(Environmental Protection Agency) of sorts. (Ed. note:
for further information, see "Earth in the Balance," Chapter13,
Environmentalism of the Spirit.) As with the Tower of Babel, God
will not allow Gore's misdirected plans for earth-worship and
international control to succeed. But American will pay a high
price for allowing Gore and his false religion to prosper
(Ex 20:3-6; Dt 4:14-19; Is 44:13-20; 45:18-20; Rom 1:18-23).
9. Gore Will Yield American Sovereignty to an Emerging Socialist World
Order Gore's socialist views are not limited to domestic economics.
Gore led U.S. negotiations for the Kyoto (Japan) Global Warming
Treaty. While the average American knows little about this treaty,
if ratified it could radically change life as we know it in the
United States. Kyoto creates a new "International Protocol" that is
grossly unfair to the U.S. Some experts estimate that the potential
cost to the U.S. could be 3 million jobs, $300 million in annual
compliance costs, a cumulative GDP loss of $3.3 trillion over 20
years, a 40% to 90% increase in consumer prices, and potential
bankruptcy for millions of small businesses.
Theft is a crime, whether committed by individuals or governments
(Ex 20:15). Each of us is responsible to provide for and protect our
own family (1 Tim 5:8) and to fight, if necessary, to protect our
property. But our leaders hold a sacred trust to protect us from
international thieves. Instead, Al Gore will portion out our goods
and feed our children to the wolves (Jn 10:10-13).
But redistributing America's wealth through complicated treaties is
only one facet of this brand of international socialism. Al Gore
supports a plethora of "treaties and conventions," already well
advanced, that would empower international agencies to rule over
more than our nation's economic affairs. Gore will keep working to
advance the "Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of
Discrimination Against Women," the "International Treaty on
Biological Diversity," the "U.N. Convention on the Rights of the
Child," and other sweeping treaties that will attempt to transform
godless social theories into international law (Gen 11:5-9;
Dt 32:7-8; Ps 22:28; Is 2:4; Mt 24:6-14; Acts 17:26-28;
Rev 19:11-16).
10) Gore Will Further Disarm Our Nation & Demoralize Our Fighting
Forces One of the two God-ordained purposes for government is
national defense (Rom 13), but the Clinton-Gore team has succeeded
only in demoralizing our armed forces. Critically needed officers
are retiring in unprecedented numbers and recruitment of enlisted
men is far below actual need. Further feminization and
homosexualization of our military, promised by Gore, will
devastate our troops. Right now, America seems militarily superior
to every other nation on earth. But this is changing fast. We are
now precariously vulnerable to ICBM attack. Threats from every
quarter will only grow worse under Gore, who -- like Bill Clinton
rejects the thesis, "Peace through Strength," Ronald Reagan's
simple and obvious maxim also found in Scripture (see Lk 11:21-22).
Scripture teaches that it is the sacred duty of men and nations to
defend their families and fellow countrymen (1 Chr 12:32-38;
Ez 3:1-6; Pr 22:3; Lk 14:31-32; Jn 10:10-16; I Tim 5:8).
We invite our fellow believers to honestly and sincerely examine
the positions of these two men in light of God's Word. We do not
"judge" them or the condition of their souls that is God's job. But
it is appropriate for those of us who claim to be God's children to
cast our votes for those who appear most likely to govern our
nation according to God's stated principles. If that is indeed the
standard we use to make our voting decisions, then no sincere,
honest, rational Christian could possibly vote for Al Gore and
Joe Lieberman.
Lord, Teach us to Pray:
Heavenly Father, AWAKEN every born-again Christian and every
God-fearing American to Your BIBLICAL MANDATE to elect the
President You choose. May they understand Your REQUIREMENTS for
civil leaders. Cause those You consider best qualified to be
elected (Ex 18:21; Dt 17:15-20; Josh 24:15; Tit 3:10-11).
Lord, OUR SINS ARE STACKED UP TO HEAVEN and we deserve crushing
Judgment via unrighteous rulers, but we plead with you for MERCY.
HAVE MERCY and grant us leaders who FEAR YOU and who will use the
power of their office to turn America back to You (Ex 15:13;
Nu 14:11-19; 2 Chr 7:14; Neh 9:32-36; Jonah 3:5-10; Joel 1:14;
2:15-18; 1 Sam 8:5-20; Is 44:24-45:4; Zec 11:16).
