This'll work for making a fine rope. I haven't used a drill before, but I'm
sure it'll do ok. First, secure a screw hook into your drill chuck. You'll
also need a remote point to fasten the other end of your rope. (A hook
screwed into a post, or something similar) Tie one end of your twine to the
hook in your drill. Run it to the other hook, back to the drill, and then
back to the hook & tie it off so you have 3 strands. Run the drill in
FORWARD until the twine is tightly wound. Then (you'll need 2 other people
for this or your rope will become severly kinked) divide the twisted twine
into thirds and (without untying or unhooking the ends) hook it onto the
drill hook & other hook so now the twisted rope will go from the drill to
the hook, back to the drill & back again to thw hook. Now run the drill in
REVERSE until the rope is tightly wound. Cut it free from the hooks and whip
the ends right away. Maybe the illustration will help...
DRILL------------A------------B------------HOOK
After you first twist the twine, have a person pinch the rope at point A and
another at point B. They should stand on opposite sides of the rope from one
another. Both people will back away, point A will loop around the hook,
point B will loop at the drill. It's really much more simple to do than to
explain. Of course you know, if you've made rope before, your finished
length will be much shorter than the original length. Let me know if you try
this & how it works for you. We've made rope this way using a hand crank
before, but I'm sure gonna try it with a drill myself. Thanks!
