so's I de-cided to tell Y'all a little story!

---==*==----

Pull up now on yee X chairs and fill yur mugs with hot Cocoa
and let 'ole Ace tell yah a tale. You kin wonder all yah want if this
story is true, but since i don't know the end I can't say myself...

Once a while back was a cluster of Jack rabbits live'n in the
sage brush at the foothils of the shine'n mountians. Thar waz
a passle of'em fuzzy and furry and full of life! They scraped and
jumped and fed on the fine greens that grow down by the river
bank. They paid no attention to anything and went headlong
playing in the sunshine like they hadn't a care in the world!

The problem was they wer'nt all that keen on watch'n
out for trouble and one day.... as the clouds went dark...

A terrible sound came bust'n through the brush and a BLACK
BEAR full of hunger swiped his big paw down and Jack rabbit
MURDER was the rule! *Oh- it was terrible!

One Jack rabbit went running wild like his heart was on fire!

When he came to a stop he was alone... and the fear he had felt
setted into a shakeing he couldn't stop! *HE thought that his
guts had turned to fiddle strings!

His rabbit friends had met such a horrible fate gave him the "willies!"

*"What shall I do now!" he said out loud...

(From above him in a tree came a voice)

*WHOoooo- Rabbit- I saw with my excellent owl eyes
what happened. I don't know what you will do.. but if
it was me I'd watch, and look at the situation. I'd use my
eyesight to keep watch for that BEAR!

(From below the Rabbit a head poked out of a tunnel as a badger
heard the voices and he spoke<G>)

You Owls do have excellent eyes and I don't... but I have a
nose and I can dig holes for safety. I don't know Rabbit what
you will do but I would dig a safe hole and smell if that BEAR
was close...

(*The grass moved a little and out of it crawled a snake! Hssssss!)

*That Bear never watches where he's going! One time he allmost stepped
on me.
I had to stay still or he would have seen me. I don't know what you are
going to do Rabbit as I think you are dead MEAT!

By this time the Jack Rabbit was a little tired of these animals brag'n

on their skills, and not helping him out! In fact it made him a little
mad
that the snake didn't think he had the grit to face the Bear and win...

*But what they said was true! He had to be honest, and didn;t know why,
but the truth these animals spoke made sence, and that gave him some
peace!

Jack Rabbit went back home and had a good sleep. It was true he
feared the Bear, but he didn't have to be a victum. These animals
all had a plan and a *plan was all he needed!

In the morning.. he woke and instead of jumping out of his bed he
stoped and listened to the sounds on the wind.... he tried to make
sence out of what he heard, and then got up slow to look around..

As he looked, he stoped and watched and far off he saw some movement.
from a safe distance he saw a shadow turn into the big BEAR!

(OWL *If I was you I would use my eyes)
=============================

He crept closer and saw the bear climb a tall hill then he remember'd
what the snake said-

(Snake- I'd stay motionless so the bear cannot see you)
=====================================

Day by Day the Jack Rabbit followed the routine of the Bear..

He watched him climb the hill, find berries and roam the pine
hills for prey. Jack rabbit knew he had no defence and could
not win a fight with the Bear.. He had to use his resources, and
find his own skills for survival. One day he saw the Bear on
the hunt, and something moved in the bushes and the Bear had
discovered another colony of Rabbits!

Jack Rabbit was stunned to find himself silently watching a Bear that
watched
these carefree animals, if he was going to save lives he had to act
fast!

Jack Rabbit climed the hill and found a hole to hide in...

(Badger-*If it was me I'd find a hole and wait, and *smell for the bear)

===============================================

Jack Rabbit lay still- and watched with his eyes!

*Sure enough... up the trail came the BEAR! The Bear stopped right
at the hole and looked up to the berries on the bush...

(*NOW!)

Jack Rabbit jumped up and ran around the bear as fast as he could!
He kicked up dirt and dust and made a big show!

Bear was startled and turned around and swung out his big paw...GRRRRRR!

*then.... Jack rabbit turned and ran right under the legs of the BEAR!

*The BEAR stuck his head between his legs and tried to catch the fast
rabbit and
LOST HIS FOOTING AND TUMBLED BACKWARD LIKE A BIG BALL!

The hill was very steep and the bear got so much speed that he began to
bounce
down the hill to the cliff! The bear went flying out over the cliff and
fell to his death!

SQUISH!

Jack Rabbit went down to the river, and the other rabbits were
playing...
He said- "You guys ought to set up a watch, you never know when a
Bear might come by.."

They laughed mockingly and replied-

"Get out of here Jack, there are no BEARS IN THESE WOODS!"

Jack got a funny feeling, like he used to think that as well... But knew
better now<G>
