An interesting crop of answers which (as so often) begs the question of what
do we mean by discipleship? Words and our understanding of them are so
important. I realize that what I was actually referring to was not
discipleship but heavy shepherding. I thought about how Jesus discipled his
followers. There was no compulsion, no coercion. He simply told them "as it
was/is" and they made their own decisions. At one point a lot of his
"followers" had deserted him because they did not like what he was saying.
When he asked his core group whether they would like to leave also they gave
the only reply a *true* disciple can give,"Lord, where would we go? You have
the words of eternal life". I think we need to remember this when dealing with
other christians (of whatever age). When a fellow believer is struggling they
need support, not condemnation.
