Here's mine:
Several years ago I was stationed at Tinker AFB. My wife and I (and our 2
small children) were headed back there from Dallas. We stopped at the state
line info center to get some coffee and take a break. When we got back in
the car it wouldn't start. I tried a few things and nothing happened. This
guy pulls up next to us in an old classic car (like a GTO or something -
primer gray). He took a look under the hood and discovered that the
alternator had locked up and broken the belt. He hooked up his battery to
our car so we could get it started and we headed back to Oklahoma City. The
best part is still to come.
We couldn't run the heater, lights, or radio because we couldn't afford to
lose the power (we'd put our battery back in but the alternator wasn't
recharging it). We were about 3 miles from our exit when the truck finally
died. I coasted to a stop in the grass in the center median just south of
the loop in OKC on I35. The guy in the primer gray classic was right behind
us. He pulled up again and tried to jump the car this time. We waited a
long time for it to charge enough to start and had called a friend on his
mobile phone. He followed us up to our exit and as I turned to wave thanks
and goodbye he disappeared - car and all! He'd been in my rearview mirror 2
seconds before - there was only our exit and he didn't pass us!!!
It gets better. When we got home we called my mom to tell her about it. She
asked me to describe the guy and I told her he was in his mid 30's (hmmmm,
maybe 33?), had a neatly trimmed beard and was wearing jeans and cowboy
boots. Before I could tell her about his car she asked "was he driving a
primer gray GTO?" I said yes and she kinda screamed and laughed and said
"Praise God!" I asked what she was sudenly so excited about (more than my
story) and she told me about a time she'd had the exact same thing happen to
her - a guy in a primer gray GTO helped her out with her car too.
What makes it so exciting? My story happened in Oklahoma in 1992 - hers was
in Alabama in 1969! Same guy? We think so - no, we know!
Praise the Lord!
