I was faced with the same problem, but my solution was a bit creative.
I asked the boys would they like to go to Wonderland (a Theme Park). Of course they 
did. So I said, "Well, you'll have earn the money." So they did a car wash and a 
bowl-a-
thon. They raised a $200. I gave a devotion on Malichi 3:10 "Bring the whole tithe 
into 
the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD 
Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so 
much blessing that you will not have room enough for it." I told the boys that if they 
tithed the money they had earnt the Lord would bless them. They were $70 short of 
what they needed, but that money was donated by a parent without being asked. Heis 
comment was, "I felt the Lord asking me to do this for the boys."
It is teaching by example.
